  • VE Strings Soundset not using Controller11

    Hi!

Love your products but I have currently the following issue:
When I, for example, use the "VE Special Edition PLUS.xml" soundset in Sibelius i have no problems controlling the dynamics with markings like FFF, FP, PPP and so on.
But when I use the "VE Strings.xml" soundset for my appassionata strings, the dynamic markings will not effect the Velocity X-fade (CC11).

I compared the two soundsets and it seems like "VE Strings.xml" doesn't have a "Controller11" set in the XML but instead a "Controller2". Is that the way it should be?

If yes, what might I have to do make it work?

    Kind Regards,

    Erik

  • CC2 is the correct controller for VE Strings soundset.  If your score isn't moving that controller, then either you have the wrong soundset selected or you have a conflict in soundsets.

The latter can occur if your SIbelius score calls out both instruments that use the Special edition soundset and instruments that use VE Strings soundset.  Some instrument names are common to both soundsets so you need to specify the Preferred sounds in your playback configuration.  Otherwise, Sibelius might pick the wrong soundset for a given instrument and unpredictable results will occur.

If your score only ever uses one or the other soundset, then you won't get a conflict and you don't need to specify preferred sounds in the playback configuration.

  • Hello Erik!

Both sound sets, "VE Special Edition PLUS" and "VE Strings", use CC11 for Velocity X-Fade. The "VE Strings" sound set uses CC2 for switches on the Y-Axis. I can only recommend using the VI presets for Sibelius as they are. If you change CC-numbers, you will only make things worse.

As dbudde has written, it may help to further define instruments on the "Preferred sounds" page, if you use strings from the Special Edition PLUS and the Strings instrument collections in one playback configuration.

If the problem stays, you might also find a solution in the "Troubleshooting" chapter of the "Optimizng Sibelius Playback" manual.

  • Andi is right about cc11.  I was looking in the wrong VI preset.  You need to use the SIbelius presets which do use cc11 for velocity x-fade.

The preferred sounds comments still apply if using multiple soundsets where an instrument definition is in more than one.
