  • Sibelius 8

    Hi

I have upgraded from Sibelius 7.5 to 8.4 today. I have installed vienna ensemble again and placed the VST plugin and I have added that VST folder in the Audio engine options. I have also put the soundmap in the Avid\Sibelius\Sounds folder. Vienna ensemble still doesn't show up among the available devices.

Does anyone know what can be the problem?

  • Hello Agamemnon!

If you have installed Vienna Instruments/Vienna Ensemble properly and they do not appear in the list of available devices, you will have to “tell” Sibelius the path where your virtual instruments and effects are located. To do so, go to Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options/Virtual Instruments and Effects Folder and choose the path where you installed the Vienna Ensemble VST plugin (= the path where the file “Vienna Ensemble x64.dll” is located). If you are using Sibelius 32-bit, you will have to add the folder where the 32-bit version of the Vienna Ensemble plugin ("Vienna Ensemble.dll") is installed. Then restart Sibelius.

If it still doesn't appear than, I would let Sibelius rescan the plugin folders (Play/Setup/Audio Engine Options/Rescan).

By the way. I strongly recommend to leave plugin files (.dll) where they are. If you copy or move such files and set the path in the Sibelius Audio Engine Options to the copied or moved version, you will get a version mismatch after the next VI/VE update. I would rather watch out where to install the files in the first place during the installation process.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • That solved it, thank you!

  • Hello again

I re-open this thread as I have new problems. I reinstalled Windows 10, Sibelius och Vienna Ensemble. Vienna Ensemble works as standalone. I've added the path to Vienna Ensemble x64.dll in Sibelius Audio engine options. When I start Sibelius Vienna Ensemble shows up but then immidiately gets shut down. Next time I start Sibelius it avoids scanning Vienna Ensemble x64.dll. If I rescan the plug-in folders and restarts Sibelius it begin starting Vienna Ensemble again - but again it fails.

  • Hello Agamemnon!

That's not a known problem. Do you get any error message? Did you try it with the latest version of the Vienna Instruments & Vienna Ensemble software?

Could it be that you have opened Sibelius 32-bit and assigned the path with the 64-bit plugin?

    Andi
