  • Do I need an audio card in my slave PC?

I use my slave PC to run VEP server and stream samples into my iMac. I haven't had any issues until I upgraded to PLAY 5. Now Logic X will not bounce in place or bounce other than real time without notes cutting out. East West support says:

"It would be ideal to have an ASIO-compliant soundcard installed in your PC (it can be an external USB device, or a PCI card) as this is one of our minimum system requirements when streaming our libraries from a Windows PC!"

Is this true? I've never had issues with this before. VEP 6 and PLAY 4 works fine but I have problems with PLAY 5. I thought I didn't need a soundcard on my PC since I'm running VEP on my PC and all output comes out of my iMac. Thoughts?

  • Hi Matt,

ThatĀ“s interesting to hear, I canĀ“t see why that would make any difference. You do not need a soundcard on your slave computer with VE Pro.

Would be interesting to know WHY this would be important.

    Anybody else experiencing this?

  • I gave it a shot and can report that the advice was bogus and didn't help. The good news is that they were able to reproduce the problem and are working toward a fix for the next version of PLAY.

  • You probably need to change the streaming settings in Play. It defaults to "0" for SSD drives, but I've found that I need to set to "1" to avoid stuttering

  • Nope.

  • Paul,

Eastwest Support said this as an explaination for needing an interface:

"While a soundcard is not necessary, there are still bandwidth limitations that you can encounter, and I suspect that, since this occurs when bouncing, this is what is happening on your system. It is not required that you send audio over Ethernet, and many people find that using an audio interface with a slave PC allows for a more stable system!"

  • Hi Matt,

I donĀ“t want to start a "remote fight", but itĀ“s a pitty that EastWest does not know better when it comes to VE Pro.

There is PLENTY of bandwidth available on a GigaBit LAN network.

  • I know! This support ticket with them has been so strange! Finally Helen on the EW forums asked me to send the logic file to her (I had been working with a different person in the support ticket) and she was able to reproduce the problem. She says it's being addressed by the devs for the next update.
