  • making sound more legato like

Hi Guys, I working on Independence Day Mockup, I just see this as a good practice. Im also happy with that but ofcourse i always try to improve the sound. I just see the Difficulties in making it more legato like. I now using the performance legato patches aswell as repetition legato. What are some Tricks inside Vienna Instruments Pro to enhance the Legatoeffect ?

  • Hi mw design,

    I got good results with:
in the tab Advanced (right upper corner) in Vienna Instruments Pro and then the Advanced tab (in the row "Mixer, Voice, Edit, Stretch, Advanced") at the right side of the window a little lower.
In this tab you can set the Start Offset to 50 ms at most, in this way you cut the first 50 ms of the sample (less is also possible of course). You have to adapt the Start Offset Attack also a little to avoid a click at the start of each sample (about 15 ms?... just listen what sounds well). With Legato patches you get a more legato sound in this way. Of course this settings only work on the selected cell in the midst of the window. I hope this helps you.

  • Here are the demo videos for the VI Pro:

     http://vsl.co.at/en/Vienna_Software_Package/Vienna_Instruments_PRO#!Video_Demos

One of them shows you how the time offset feature works but I don't remember which one it is (Paul?)

Also, you could try bumping up the Release fader to about 70 (no more than 75)  I think it defaults to 63.

    Hi jasensmith,

It´s the "Polyphonic Legato" Video, at 2:15 (you can see the "chapters" of each video when you click the arrow symbol).

    Best,

  • Thank You Guys, what i want to know exactly after the legato and repetition legato, what will be the next natural articulation when it comes to a faster play ?, I always struggle at this Point and create a Multipatch a Legato half in Volume and a detache or so to imitate a faster attack.

I look to the Video Tutorials

    Regards

  • This is a actual Example, If You look at the Notes they are Short and defined but at the same Time its a fluid Legato Sequence in the Original Recordings.

    Hi,

You can find quite some options in the Extended Libraries of our collections for fast legato playing, with Solo Strings I containing most variation.

You are probably looking for fast performance marcato or performance spiccato, and for fast runs and trills, the Performance Trill will be great to have.

I have sent you demo licenses for your Appassionata Strings I and Chamber Strings I, which will unlock those more delicate articulations for 30 days.

    Best,
    Paul

    Hi,

To get that specific sound you are after, the best idea is to look for combinations that work for you, also by "copying" the techniques that are used in your favourite presets.

Our VI PRO Video Tutorials go through all features of VI PRO, also stacking and layering articulations and instruments.

    Hope that helps!

    Best,
    Paul
