  • Mixing in the DAW or in Vienna Ensemble?

    Hi,

I usually prefer to do all my mix in Logic, to have a singe file containing everything.

At the same time, switching to the VE window is as switching to the Mixer window in Logic, since windows from different applications cohexist very well on the Mac's display.

Is there any advantage in mixing in VE? Since I can't upgrade to the newer version of Logic, including true stereo panning, stereo panning might be one of the reasons. Are there others?

  • I personally load a much into VE pro as I can, as I find it does a better job handling CPU distribution than my DAW (cubase). Though for effects I wish to automate, I do still tend to load them in my DAW for ease, though I should explore this further as VE pro's automation parameter & assignment is pretty quick and easy. Though I dont like how the parameters loose their names in my DAW...

BTW, AFAIK all versions of Logic have the direction mixer, which allows true stereo panning (unless I'm missing your point?) http://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/direction-mixer

  • Jon, thank you very much for pointing me towards the Direction Mixer! I admit I never used it, and didn't consider I coulc use it for more precise placement of each instrument on stage!

With 10.3.1 you no longer need it, you can set the pan knobs to do the same things.

  • Jay, I know, but since I can't upgrade from Yosemite (due to compatibility issues with some programs I use at work), I can't install the latest version of Logic.
