  • How to connect Mac and PC via LAN??

    Dear Forum,

I've searched this forum and googled a lot, but didn't get an answer to my problem. The VEP manual also shed no light.

Everyone seems to assume that establishing a LAN connection between master (Mac Pro late 2013, Yosemite) and slave (windows 7 PC) is somethings everybody knows. Well, I'm not one of those. So I hope to get some help here.

Can someone talk me through the process? What exact settings are needed on both the windows pc and the Mac.

Assume that I know close to nothing about networks. So saying: "Set a fixed IP address" means nothing to me.

If my problem is too basic for this forum, maybe someone can point me to an internet resource. Thanks to everyone!

  • Hi. I did this back in 2005 and stopped using it a long time ago; and I have forgotten what I did. I found some info on the internet; it was a forum somewhere. This is really really old but you should be able to get it going following these guidelines that I have recovered from my archives!.

I QUOTE the following with no guarantee ! :

     >>

GUIDE: Networking Windows with OS X

Networking Windows (2000/XP/2003*) with Mac OS X (10.3/10.4)

Information you will need to know

    • The IP Address of your PC (Start > Run > CMD {return} > “ipconfig” {return})
    • The IP Address of your Mac (Applications > Utilities > Terminal {Run app} > for ethernet connection “ipconfig getifaddr en0” {return} or for wireless "ipconfig getifaddr en1" {return})
    • The workgroup the PC is in (Right click on My Computer, select Properties, and select the Computer Name tab)

    System Configuration

It is important that the account you log in with on your XP system has a password set, if it does not you will not be able to login to your Windows share from OS X.

You need to put your Mac in the same workgroup as your Windows PC. To do this open “Directory Access” (Applications > Utilities > Directory Access). Click on the padlock in the bottom left corner to make changes; you will be prompted for your password. If “SMB” is not ticked off, then tick it off. Select “SMB” and hit the “Configure…” button. Now enter the name of your Windows workgroup. In my case the name is “AD”.

    Good luck

  • Hi,

I am also having a really hard time connecting my Mac & slave PC. My system is different than the OP's. I am running Pro Tools 11 on a 2008 Mac Pro, and using an HP Z600 for the slave machine. I can not figure out how to get the PC connected to the Mac via the ethernet cable... I can get Microsoft Remote Desktop to work using my wirelss network, but do not want to have the PC connected to the internet, just to the Mac.

I also have not found much info on all of the forums on how to do this.

    Thanks,

    George
