About Roger Friedman

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Roger Friedman started to play the piano by ear at the age of five. Until the age of twenty, when he enrolled at the famous Berklee College of Music, he never had piano lessons. At the Berklee College of Music he took private classes with Ray Santisi and still considers himself a perpetual “student of the music”. His playing reflects many influences, ranging from Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock to Keith Jarrett, McCoy Tyner and Chick Corea. Roger Friedman has recently released his jazz trio CD “Going My Way?”.

Giving piano classes frequently and at the same location seemed to be incompatible with a busy schedule of performing. Looking back on a career as a jazz pianist for more than 30 years, Roger Friedman decided to share his knowledge and experience on the web, being independent from location and time. To accomplish this goal, he created his channel “Lot2Learn”, registered in 2007 on the popular video platform “YouTube”, which has almost 4,000 subscribers and 1.4 million viewers.

More than 100 jazz tunes and improvisations in different levels of difficulty, instrumentations and tempos can be found on “Lot2Learn”. While the camera is always focusing on Roger’s hands on the keyboard, the notes and chords are indicated separately on a second keyboard display, allowing even players who are not familiar with sheet music to rehearse and practice the tunes. On Roger’s website http://lot2learn.com additional MIDI files and backing tracks are available for download.

Roger Friedman used the Vienna Imperial virtual piano for a couple of video demos and was thrilled from the outset: “The richness and realism of the samples, as well as the multitude of settings makes the Vienna Imperial Grand Piano an excellent choice for me to use in my videos”.

The two videos on the left feature the Vienna Imperial both as a solo instrument and in a jazz trio arrangement.
