multi note tremolos with VSL or VI SE?

Hi all!

I am the owner of VSL full pro edition on several GS machines and VI SE, I dont have $$ to upgrade to the full VI.

I have a client that needs multi note tremolos, and I thought maybe in the performance set someplace there was something, but I dont see anything. Of course there are plenty of 'tremolo' samples but those are single note tremolos and not what I consider a real tremolo. How I was taught many years ago, and how I have always performed and written tremolos is that a tremolo is moving back and forth over 2 notes, similar to a trill, just over larger intervals than a Maj 2nd. Now I have a client and who needs string tremolos over Perfect 4th and similarly larger intervals. Is there a good way to do this with either VSL full pro or VI SE? I tried some just playing of the 2 notes by hand and if it is buried down under it can pass, but I want something that sounds real. Thank you tremendously in advance for your responses :-)

I believe that there are tremolo samples, although I've never used them. Just be aware that a fourth tremolo on a violin and viola is easy, not so easy on a cello. A tremolo over a fifth is possible, but likely to be out of tune on a violin, but not really possible on viola or cello. Tremolos over larger intervals than this are not possible.

well my client is one of the most prolific 'pops' style composers who has spent 40+ years writing for strings, I am sure his tremolos are all 'playable on the real instruments' but I need to recreate them with VSL, so looking for some tips. As I mentioned I have seen the trem samples but they are 1 note tremolos and not multi note. I have the VSL full pro edition so if its part of VSL then I have it. As for the newer stuff I only have Vienna Instruments special edition. Any help at where these would be would just be so wonderful to hear about :-)

Thank you!

Just because someone has been doing something for years, doesn't necessarily mean they know anything about it. Just look at the economy for a start. Wink

Anyway, I'll try to find some time today to see what trems I have.

The violins in the Orchestral Strings I have fingered tremolo up to a major 3rd. Other than that, all the String Collections have performance trills, so that you can play your own. Up to a point.

The VI patch is:

14 VI-14_trill_4

I've no idea what it would be in the Pro Edition, if it even exists, becuase I deleted all that stuff from my hard drives over 3 years ago. Stick out tongue

Alas I only have special edition of the Vienna Instruments and that patch is not included :(

I found some min3 and maj3 trills in the VSL but nothing past that so far, tho maybe there is something i havent seen yet in the performance edition section.

Glad you are so rich you can delete over $5000.00 of samples from your hard drives 3 years ago, wish I was able to, and I also wish i could have upgraded more than just the SE version of the Vienna Edition... I wish that VSL was a little more appreciative of us early customers and gave us better upgrade options...

So I guess my questions stands, does anyone know in VSL full pro edition where there are tremolos (what VSL calls 'trills') over anything larger than a Maj 3rd?

Thank you!

If they are not in VI, it is very unlikely that they will be in the Pro Edition.

It's not a question of being rich, it's a question of doing regular studio updates. The VI Cube has paid for itself many times over, not least becuase I can work twice as quickly.

yea I hear ya, I just spent like $15k last year in updates, upgrades, etc and thats as far as my budget would allow. I chose things like altiverb and hardware upgrades, investing deeply in xp64 for Gigastudio 4 (what a bad choice!!!) and other stuff that I thought was more imperative that when I got to the end of the upgrade period for my VSL products I only had 1500 bucks or so left, which wasnt enough to get the whole shebang. Maybe this year I will do at least a little more but it wont be before this project is finished for sure

Anyone else have luck with trills past Maj3rd in VSL full pro edition?

Thanks!
