I use Vienna Ensemble Pro Server with Pro Tools 8.

Today a strange thing started to happen:
I load a Pro Tools Session. I load a Vienna Ensemble Metaframe. VI's and samples load fine. Everything looks good. I connect the server as a RTAS plug-in and then... Nothing.
Vienna Ensemble Pro, and its different VI's loaded, make no sound or show any meter activity, even if I click on the graphic keyboards in the different VI's GUIs.
But if I load a Vienna Instruments plug-in as an RTAS insert on another aux track inside Pro Tools, and play a sound on this plug-in, Vienna Ensemble Pro "jumpstarts" and all its VI's suddenly works fine.
I recreated the problem and the "solution" many times. Restarts and all that. Same thing.

Does anyone know what's wrong?

Thanks for your input.

Have you checked that your MIDI data is getting through ok? (little green light at the left hand side of the instrument channels inside VEP)

Also check the MIDI lights inside whatever plugins you're using in VEP, make sure you're on the right MIDI chan.

Yes. I've checked. Neither MIDI nor audio works in VE Pro.
And I'm on the right MIDI channel.
And even if I click on the graphic keyboards in the different VI's GUIs there's no sound or any meter activity in VE Pro.

But… if I load a Vienna Instruments plug-in as an RTAS insert on another aux track inside Pro Tools -- Abracadabra! -- both MIDI and audio comes to life in VE Pro.

It's like one application (Vienna Instruments) tells another (Vienna Ensemble Pro) to start working. Very strange.

Perhaps the VEP audio engine is loading up turned off? (Power icon in the top left hand corner of the VEP instance windows).

Thanks for your input.
But clicking the Power Icon on/off, off/on etc. does not bring VE Pro to life.

I've been clicking like a madman on anything clickable to see if it something happens...
But the only thing - so far - that brings VE Pro to life is to load a Vienna Instruments plug-in as an RTAS insert.

I remember that this happened to me with an older build, but don't know which one. this was just after an update so it may not be relevant here. what if anything had chenged in the interim?

If this were me, I'd try updating it just to see if that works. or, even uninstall and reinstall that one, to refresh the files.
