Hi,

I just bought VI Pro to use with Dimension Strings. I want to set up a matrix for violin 1, and then apply all the same settings only replacing all the violin 1 patches with violins 2-8, violas, cellos and basses. Is there any way to do this? I really don't want to have to set up a separate matrix for each individual instrument...

Thanks.

You can set up the matrix for all eight violins and remove violins 2-8 from one version and violin 1 from the other. Also, if you press ctrl+alt W on Windows (or the Mac equivalent) you will get a list of patches loaded. If you want to replace patches in a matrix with those of a different instrument, you enter equivalent parts of the patch names in the boxes.

In DS, player 1 patches have P1 in their name and the corresponding player 2 patches have P2 in their name, so you can enter P1 in the first box and P2 in the second and VI will automatically do the replacements for you. As far as I know, this is not an officially supported method, and it only works in standalone mode, but I have found it very useful. Instead of P1 and P2 you could enter KLB and BA to have Bb clarinet patches replaced with bassoon patches, for example.

Cubase (OS agnostic). Various VSL bits and pieces.

And note that the ctrl+alt W trick only work with in standalone app.

Thanks so much, that's really helpful - glad to know there's an easy (or easier) way to do this...

This is enormously helpful. I wish I had known this before setting up my DS template (and filling each slot manually...).

I loaded the latest VI PRO Update and tried to use the replace-patches function - alas, it does not work. I tried to replace the patches of a VI-P1 matrix consisting of 12x4 Patches. I get a list of errors, so long, that i cannot see the cancel/replace button. I can choose "replace" by pressing tab, and then enter, but nothing happens.

When i do this with a smaller selection of patches, selecting "replace" leads to an instant crash of the VI PRO App.

Hi,

A new version of VI PRO is already in the pipeline, where this bug will be fixed. Shouldn´t take long!

Best,
Paul

Hi Bill,

"Only" an update, sorry if I triggered false hopes there...

I was having a bit of problems with this issue too.  After creating an epic preset I had way to many "errors" that I could not see the bottom.  A weird little trick that sorted it out for me on my Mac (should also work for PC) was to change the screen from the standard lanscape layout to portrait on my desktop monitor.  While really weird for a minute (the mouse starts working in opposit directions) you are able to see the bottom of the error list and click "yes" instead of the highlighted "No" that is selected.  I also hit the "tab" button and it did not switch from "no" to "yes" so this trick might solve the problem. I would be lost without the Command (Mac) +Alt+ W shortcut!!!

Here is a link to how you can rotate your screen on a mac.  Really simple but you have to follow these special instructions....
