Hello all - I'm new to VSL and to this community, so I hope I'm asking this in the correct forum.
I've just installed Vienna Whistler, and I'm trying to figure out how to apply articulations to a pre-existing midi file, which currently has a melody but no articulation information.
Is this even possible? Every tutorial and video I've seen shows somebody applying the articulation while they are actually playing the notes. I haven't seen any instances of people applying articulations to previously recorded midi notes, but I had assumed it was possible to do so.
I'd appreciate any insights you can share - thanks in advance!

You have various options:
- Draw them in with the pencil tool in your sequencer
- Play them in real time and record what you're playing
- Input them in Steptime

Thanks for the fast response, DG.
I understand how to do those things with basic midi, but the Vienna Whistler instrument comes with a matrix of 36 presets, each of which triggers a sample of a different performance (such as staccato, half trill, bend up, etc.).
What I can't figure out is how to apply (or assign, or whatever the correct term is) a specific preset to a specific note in the midi file. Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

You need to be careful with nomenclature, as Presets and Matrices in VSL speak are very different things. It is possible to Keyswitch (or Program change or controller) between Matrices, but not between Presets.
My advice would be to start with a totally empty Preset, add a couple of articulations to a Matrix and then look at the various ways to change patch within the matrix in the VI player. Then try setting up the articulations in separate Matrices and see how to change Matrix.
Once you have a better understanding in how thew VI player works, I think that the VSL provided Presets and Matrices will become much clearer.
