So I have decided to go the multi template route with Logic. I was gonna use the single isntance per instrument. But I am also using Cubase. So it'll be better to use the mutiport template route. I just wanted to check something. I want to break my instances down into: Perc, Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds. I see that iwth the Multiport template I have 3 options: 1 x 16, 2 x 48, and 6 x 16

So let's say I use the 1 x 16 template. How do I create another instrument in Logic which is gonna link to another instance and then assign the Multi instruments and it's ports to it? Do I need to duplicate these in the Environment? I haven't worked much in the Environment, so this is a bit of an unknown territory for me.

Ok, so I figured the 6 x 16 template would work well. As that would cover enough for me. But I've found that the fist VEP instrument in Logic works. But the second one when I connect it to an instance I can't hear the instrument on different MIDI channels when I go to a different MIDI track in Logic. I've set up the routing correctly in my VEP instance but on the second VEP instrument in Logic it only receives audio on MIDI channel 1, when I go to the other MIDI tracks it's not sending it to VEP. Any ideas?

Hi soundbase,

If you are playing multi-timbral instruments: Did you set the MIDI Channel to "All"?

Yeah the multitimbral instruments are set to all.

The VEP instances are fine.

It's in Logic. For example if I connect an instance on VE Pro Main 1 it works.

But if I disconnect that, and then connect VE Pro Main 2 to the same instance, the MIDI channels don't work. ONly the instrument track which gets sent to MIDI channel 1, even if have it set to all.

So its the VE Pro 2_ stacked MIDI tracks that don't seem to be working

Hi, this is my first post, so I'm not sure of etiquette, However I'm really stuck now, I'm having the exact same problem as soundbase.

I am using the 6x16 template, and succesfully linked the first "VE PRO 1 Main" with one instance on my slave computer 1. I have then created folders on my slave that correspond to the sub folders in logic. Changing both the Midi port & Midi Channel.

That is working, and the routing is working correctly. I am then wanting to link c to a different slave computer - slave 2.

From my understanding i would then create an instance, and folders in ve pro on slave 2, and select the first sub folder for instrument 2 as Midi Port 1, Channel 2. As each instrument can have (in this particular template) 16 Midi Ports and then 16 Midi channels per port.

When I play the main VE PRO MAIN 2  instrument track and select "All", and then go back to Slave 2 and change all plugins as midi port 1 midi channel 1, all instruments play. However they do not play on the dedicated channel 1.

Ive tried all combinations but nothing works. was this ever solved Soundbase?

I ditched the Multi template for Logic. Couldn't get it working right. Plus I did a bit of research and it works better with Logic and VEPro to use single instruments in Logic, and then connect these to single VEP instances. So you use more instances, but you get better performance. I did find that in Logic I could create a Multi out instruments. Then in the Arrangement area if I clicked to add another track underneath it, it would add a MIDI instrument with the next MIDI channel. All I needed to do was then change some of the Outputs for the tracks in Logic, and in Kontakt in VEPro. I found this in the Groove3 tutorial. It works pretty well.

Groove3 - VEPro Explained

The only downside is that you can freeze a multi-instrument like this in Logic. But that's really the only downside.

So that's one way around it. Or else use single instruments in Logic linked to single instances in VEPro, and if you do wanna do some articulation switching you can use SkiSwitcher. I found this works pretty well. So I only ned to have one instrument and use SkiSwitcher to do all the articulation switching for me.

Hope this helps. VEPro can be quite a setup hound. But once you get over the hurdles with it and Logic it works pretty well.

FYI, I've currently moved over to Cubase, because of its better handling with multitimbral instruments and VEP.
