I'm installing Mac OS on a brand new drive from scratch, and I installed Vienna Instruments and noticed Cubase no longer shows a VST3 version of the plugin, though my old/current DAW clearly has a VST3 for Vienna listed and in use. Is there some special link somewhere that I missed? I don't even remember how I got this before.

Thanks in advance.

Hello MDesigner

Could you checkout the folder "Plugins" within Cubase, please?

Check out whether you can see the VSL-VST3 Plugins or not.

It could be that they are in the table but they got no "tick"...?

All the best

See below. There is no .vst3 file for the Vienna Instruments plugin. I could try reinstalling though..

Obviously, the installer (5.3.13166, latest as of 04/12/2014) does not install the VST3 version anymore (see attached screenshot).

I downgraded to version "Vienna Instruments 4.1.10738", which still contains the VST3 plugin! The older downloads are available on the VSL website. This is really strange...

Hello,

That´s correct, the VST3 version was skipped for quite some time now, because there is no advantage for VI with VST3, in our eyes.

Unless the VST2 version is using some CPU processing when there is nothing passing through it. In that case VST3 would be better.

What about Note expression, available in VST3.5?

Kind regards

EXACTLY! Does the VST2 VI pro not use any CPU unless its playing notes?

Now I am pretty sure you guys failed to see the essense of using VST3 consists of note expression and lower CPU consumption.

Hello ShikiSuen,

Thanks for your input. Note Expression was never supported with Vienna Instruments or Vienna Instruments PRO, and I´m afraid the lower CPU consumption is negligible, from our perspective.

Looks like the only approach is to encourage Steinberg to drop VST2 support in future Cubase / Nuendo releases, which may meet their preferences.

Of course the new scoring program Dorico, is VST3 only, although we assume that VI will be on the whitelist of supported VST2.4 plugs, for those developers who insist on living in the past.

BTW Note Expression is even more important for a scoring program than a sequencer, IMO.

I think I found a problem with not having the VST3 version of VIPRO. I'm trying to use Vienna Instruments Pro with Dorico on my Mac (Sierra), and it doesn't appear in the list of available pluging.

Vienna Ensemble Pro, available as a VST3, is shown. Vienna Instruments Pro is not.

Is there a workaround for this?

A) Use VI/Pro in VE/Pro

B) Follow the procedure on the Dorico forum to white list VST2 plugins
