Hi Folks,

A New Beginning, for Alto Flute, Violin, Cello, and Piano, is an emotionally-charged work by Canadian composer, David Carovillano.  This instrumental piece seeks to convey the gamut of emotions brought forth by the global pandemic.  As humanity struggles to make sense of the events that have fundamentally altered our way of life, we remain hopeful and optimistic that better times lie ahead.  Along our journey, our resolve is tested repeatedly.  Amidst a deluge of threats and challenges, our unrelenting spirit rises against the onslaught of doom and despair.  Our confidence does not waver.  We will overcome and emerge stronger that ever.

I've written my last piece of music for a long while, and I do hope you will enjoy it.  Going forward, I've got some larger orchestral projects that simply must get done this year, and so I've made it my mission to stop writing new music, and focus on getting these virtual performances and scores completed.

Hi David.
I really enjoyed your latest work, both composition and production.
It sound really natural to me, just the violin sounding a bit backward.
Maybe due at keeping performers, even virtual ones, at proper social distance?

Best.

Thank you for listening, Fabio! Aren't all violinists a bit backward...they now can use social distancing as their excuse :)

Cheers!
Dave

One thing I forgot to mention when I first posted the piece:  my desire to explore the alto flute, not in its typical milieu, as a colouristic/atmospheric instrument, but rather incorporating a great deal of technical wizardry and virtuosity.  I also thought because it shares the same range as the violin, it would allow for some interesting interplay (although, the way the piece ended up, did not match my initial intentions prior to putting "pen to paper."  Finally, using virtual instruments is a perfect opportunity to write something like this and have it realized as a performance.  In real life, I'd be hard-pressed to find an alto-flutist to join the piano trio :)

That is all,

Dave
