Hello
Overnight, my Synchron Player Presets and Patches have disppeared, even though nothing has been deleted from my laptop. I'm using Synchronized Vienna Solo Voices on Synchron Player 1.2.220. This is a nightmare - as ever, it's happened when I'm working around the clock to meet a deadline.
I have a feeling this is something to do with the ghastly anti-piracy system that VSL uses. I've spent 2 hrs trying to find a solution to this VSL issue, with no luck. I'm not finding the info I need in the manuals - if it's there, it's well hidden. So I would be grateful as a start for any help on the following. A lot of these might be obvious but I can't actually find a simple explanation of the following and have run out of time trying to second-guess how VSL works:
- In Synchron Player, when asked to point to the User Presets Folder, is that the folder that contains *_Patches.syvolume? I'm asking this as in a last-ditch attempt to get this software to find my presets and patches again, I've played around with this setting. And am now worried I've ended up pointing to the wrong place.
- To double check: A few years ago, when I bought the Vienna Solo Voices before Synchronized came along, I had to buy the Vienna Key e-Licencer (the navy blue dongle) to authorise and thus use the item I'd purchased. Am I right in thinking since I updated to Synchronized, this extra item is now redundant? And does this mean that all the licences are held in the cloud only? This might seem an obvious question but I'm clutching at straws here - my software stopped working when I put the dongle away, and hasn't worked again, even when I put it back and restarted my Mac.
- When I go to the online version of iLok, I see my software is active but the licence ID starts with a minus number, as though it's showing an error. Is this significant?
- Could something with the above have messed up my system? Or is there another culprit? I can see my VSL software is activated when I click on the software that says 'iLok Licence Manager'. Does this refer to licences in the cloud?
- I went onto Vienna Assistant in the last hour and reinstalled Synchronized, and the voices themselves. Neither has helped.
Something has screwed things up royally! Any help fixing this gratefully received.

...well, after a lot of digging around, I found I had to go back into iLok manager and re-open the cloud session. No dialogue boxes, popup menus, tutorial videos or anything to hint at this. I had to work it out via 3 hours of digging around.
Honestly, this VSL licensing setup is terrible. I really wish VSL could have the know-how to make their software run as smoothly and reliably as, say, MaxMSP or Ableton. At the moment, I feel far too many of us are subsiding VSL with hours of unpaid labour, trying to fathom how to make their software fit for purpose.

Hi Harmonia,
Do I get it right you were still using the old e-Licenser key? I strongly suggest to get the iLok key and put all your licenses on this key. Take your licenses of the cloud! What I do is: when I start a session I switch internet on and check for updates of all my software. Then I turn the internet of. There's no need for the internet since I've got all my software on the iLok key. Never trust the internet and in particular the cloud. Remember the cloud is just someone else's computer! Good Luck.
Regards:
Willem

This is something that has happened to me as well.
I wish VSL would prompt the user in some way when there is no iLok cloud authorization.
Not only as a convenience, but also to prevent from the following disaster to happen:
I once had a project where Synchron Brass was used in the middle of the track. I loaded up the project, authorization failed (without me knowing), and I edited some (non VSL-) string parts. Then I saved my project, and the next time I opened my project all Synchron Brass settings were GONE.
This of course is explainable. There was no authorization, so no instruments were loaded, no settings were loaded, and those empty settings were written back into the project.
Other VSTs handle this differently. They either keep the settings, but prevent the VST from working, or they prompt the user with some kind of (non-blocking) error message. Synchron Player does neither.
