How can I delete a track in logic WITHOUT deleting the parameters such as volumes?

Thanks!

Hi Guy,

Easiest way would be to just delete the regions in the track - this leaves the automation data untouched.

Hope that helps!

But how do you select the region? I can't seem to find it!

Guy,

Not sure now wether we talk about the same thing - to select a region, you just have to click on it in the arrange window, to delete it, simply press delete...

Some small notes.

There are two kinds of "parameters such as volumes."

Region Based Automation puts the MIDI info inside the region. So, if you select a region, go to Matrix and enable the correct Hyperdraw in Matrix, you'll see the parameter settings represented there. You can also see them represented in the Event List (assuming they're not filtered from view).

Track Based Automation is on the track only, and it can only be viewed (comfortably) in Arrange. To see it, though, you must enable Arrange / View / Track Automation.

The nature of your question leads me to assume that you're using Region Based Automation. So take note of Options / Track Automation / Move Current Region Data to Track Automation. That takes the volumes and such out of the region (RBA) and puts it into the track (TBA). Note as well the helpful other options below this that move the current or all automation back and forth between methods.

As a sidebar, once you start working in TBA, note in Preferences / Automation that there are settings for the way in which TBA will follow any regions that you move.

If you delete a region that has TBA superimposed over it, and the Preference is set to "Never," the automation will remain. If it's set to "Always," it will delete the automation with your region. "Ask" will give you a prompt.

Selecting regions can be tricky when Track Automation view is on. You have to click the thin area of the region that's poking above the automation read-out. If you click too low, you inadvertantly enter a node.

Marnix,

Sorry, I didn't express myself well, I meant automation.

Plowman,

You guessed right, and somehow the term automation which I'm very familiar with totally slipped my mind when writing my question. Thanks for your explanation, I feel like a moron now I see how simple it was.

Cheers!
