  • mass edits of preset files?

I would LOVE some system whereby I could change the control structure of *all* my preset files. Is there any way that this could be done? I tried opening one of the files, on the off-chance that it might be human-readable, but it clearly is not. Does anyone know of a way to edit the preset file directly? I've been experimenting with a new app I've been writing, and I'm finding it would be better handled using program changes and controllers rather than keyswitches. But to go through and re-design my entire orchestra with the new controllers is an absolute nightmare. Any suggestions? I know I could use matrix and preset templates with the new controllers, but it's still a pretty big process to re-assign all the patches. Thoughts anybody?

  • I had this thought after the VI was originally announced and posted to Herb about it prior to release - I could see it coming! [:)]

It would be so useful if the software knew the relationships between the articulations on different instruments. You could then simply select a new instrument or ensemble type from a dropdown menu in the VI and all the patches would be replaced with the most similar articulations, with all the other controllers, keyswitches and the basic matrix configuration left intact.

The strings detaches for example would be replaced with portatos on brass and woodwinds. Even if there isn't a direct replacement available for the new instrument a basic sustain could be entered so that the patch is at least entirely playable.

Like you say there are so often times when you want to alter your setup as your experience and perhaps the host software develops - it is a nightmare to contemplate changing every single patch. This would be such a useful addition and would allow for easy duplication of intruments without worrying about whether or not the saved patch is up to date with your latest preferences.

  • Just to see whether any VSL folks might reply...

Is there any chance we might get some system, in the future, for applying controller assignments/re-assignments to multiple preset files. I think it would be reeeeeeally handy, particular when you consider how many people there are using common sets of controllers for all their instruments. If we want to add a single controller to our model, we have to manually add it to every instrument in the orchestra. Seems like that labour should be more easily manageable.

    Just a thought.
