  • FX Teleport help?

    Hi -

I'm new to Teleport, and I'm getting a lot of drop-out @ 512 samples with just one instance loaded on the slave. I'm curious if its my setup:

Slave: Pentium 4 2.4Ghz XP Home, 2GB Ram - Compaq laptop
    Switch: Netgear 1000 Mbit 8-port
Card: The onboard Ether is 10Mbit, so i put a 1Gbit adapter in the PCMCIA slot. Reports 1GB speed...

Old VI interface (dusted off the machine).

What kind of latency can I expect, and is there a likely weak point in my setup? If I buy a new PC, with the works, can I expect better?

    Thanks for your help,

    Eric

  • Hi Eric
    well, I have a E6300 / 1 gbit slave and I'm runnning a bunch of instances
with latency 10 ms and no drop-outs
I also have a P4 2.8 Ghz and its not doing so well - had to raise the
    buffer size to avoid dropouts.

However I don't think this is cpu related - either its the tcp/ip interface/card or it's interuptions caused by services and programs running in the background. ( eg. index service etc. ) - or hardware interrupt allocations,
with the tcp/ip sharing interupt no. with another piece of hardware.

  • One other thing. I always run the FXT buffer of twice that of the host soundcard. In may case 128 for the host, and 256 for FXT. This may cause dropouts when playing back a whole orchestra, but for tracking is perfect.

  • Thank you both!

I will check to see what's running in the background, and also consider an upgrade...

    Regards,

    Eric
