Hi All,
Wondered if anyone had any experience using GS3 as a Rewire slave, especially in VStack. I'm able to get the AUDIO from GS3 into VStack via Rewire, but only by playing the GS3 onscreen keyboard - can't route the MIDI so that the notes in the GS3 instruments sound.
Any experience? Any advice?
Thanks, Peter

You would be much better off using GVI (GigaStudio as a plug-in) in V-Stack. I believe there's a crossgrade price for GigaStudio owners.

Sorry, should have clarified. I use GVI and endorse it enthusiastically. However there are some sounds from the Garritan Orch Strings library with multiple dimension key-switching that can only be used via GS3. So I'm still looking for how to do this via Rewire.
Thanks, Peter

I've been using GigaStudio as a Rewire slave in Plogue Bidule - MIDI routing is no problem. Have you tried using that?

Thanks for the suggestion - for some reason it hadn't penetrated my noggin that Bidule was also Windows XP-compatible (I've used it a bit on the Mac). Have you also use GVI in Bidule, and does it work well?

I picked up the GVI upgrade only just over a week ago, and I've done a few tests in Bidule - so far so good. Performance Tool routing is slightly different to GS3 but also works fine so far...

GVI and Bidule are very happy together. It seems to be the most popular VST host.
Sorry, haven't tried V Stack/Rewire before. Good luck.

Bidule users -
So I downloaded and installed Bidule on my Windows XP machine, and I can't get the VST plug-ins to appear as an "instrument" choice in the palette; Bidule doesn't know they're there. (I've got GVI, Atmosphere, Stylus, Stylus RMX, and Trilogy, none of which are showing up). I copied those plug-ins into the VSTPlugins folder in the Bidule program folder. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks, Peter

Thanks, Peter With some plugs you can't just copy the .dll For these you sometimes need to copy and use a shortcut instead. DG

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it, didn't help. Mosso? Synthetic?

Got it! Figured it out. In Bidule's "preferences" there's a VST pane which allows you to set the VST plug-in path. Did this, and voila - there they are. PL

You might be able to load your performance into GVI, or at least recreate it. Try stacking the instruments and using "stack properties" to keyswitch between them. (You can also do this in GS3). Then save the result as a .gsi file. When you load that .gsi later, you'll get all of the stacked instruments and their keyswitch properties. A gsi is basically the same as a performance (.gsp), except you can load a gsi into an existing performance or open multiple gsis at once.
I run GVI and VI side-by-side in Bidule. It works great.

Thanks - no, it's deeper than that - the Garritan Orch Strings patches are wildly complex and have keyswitching dimensions built in to the patches themselves (i.e., not a question of stacking patches). While the layers could be separated and turned into one patch per layer, then stacked, I might need serious medical attention by the time I was done. Believe me, I wouldn't be looking for a way to access GS3 if it were doable with GVI. But thanks for the thought. And good to hear that GVI and VI coexist nicely in Bidule.

Glad to hear you sorted out your Bidule issues. Good luck with the music-making!
