  • VI Troubles in Sonar 5

    Hi Guys,
I'm sure this is beat to death, but I couldn't find it in the FAQ or searching the forum.

My VI works great on my Pentium 3.6GHz 2GB DAW running XP professional SP1 but when I installed it in my other location on a AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 2.08GHz, 1GB running XP home SP2, the VI stand alone is fine but the VST won't play. It will load samples fine but I can't get notes to play. It will not even play using the mouse. Both machines are running Sonar 5 Producer and for the life of me I can't figure out what the major malfunction is. I fired up a GVI softsynth and it plays OK, but for some reason I just can't get the VI softsynth to responed to either the mouse or the assigned MIDI track. And yes, I moved the hardware key over. I also reinstalled the VI software and it loads into the Sonar VST list just fine.

    Thanks
    Eric

  • eric, this rather sounds to me like an audio device issue (ouput is not multi client capable and used by something other) - not beeing able to play on the mouse-keyboard is a strong hint to such an issue.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • It's not the audio, it's actually the function of note on not being recieved.
You know how when you click on the VI keyboard, you see the key pressed and you see the VU meter in the middle of the screen shoot up around the circle? Well this won't do that. In stand alone mode, no problem. It's just the VST plugin, the mouse can't press any of the keys?? And it works fine on the other machine.

    Help?

  • Update:
The VI plugin works with the MIDI keyboard also. But it does not work from the mouse or the assigned MIDI track.

Further Update: I was wrong. The keyboard only worked with the Stand Alone version. I found out that Sonar did not have the Delta 1010 audio device setup, I always used Giga for output [:@] Once I set the audio device the plugin magically started working. [:D]

  • Hi Eric,

I've occasionally lost connectivity in SONAR 5 this way. I kept staring at the interface that showed a matrix and all the patches I thought should be there, but nothing would play. I finally thought I'd start over, and when I went to the matrix screen, I would see the interface indicating I had no licenses installed. Check if that's the case. If it is, CM will work with you to make sure your firewall and/or av app is configured correctly.

  • All licenses are showing, stand-alone works, but the VST just won't respond to mouse or track MIDI Note ON messages.

Cakewalk feels that since the GVI VST works that it must be a VI issue?

    Any ideas would be helpful.
    Thanks
    Eric

  • If the licenses are visible, and your matrix is populated, you might be out of RAM on your 1 GB machine. Try rebooting, load your host, and assign a single patch to a blank matrix. If that doesn't work, and Christian doesn't have any other ideas, you might need to install another 1GB memory.

[:D] I was surprised to see that if the VI VST didn't have an audio path out that there would be no response from it, as if it weren't recieving MIDI commands.

    Thanks for the help.
