  • Question about tutorials inside VSL Demos

I have been checking out the demos on the VSL site and where available the downloadable presets that accompany the midi file attached. These are interesting and valuable. I have a question though. If the demo midi file has 44 instruments in the orchestra (and there are 32 presets, say), does that mean that I must instantiate 44 VSL instruments in order to play the demo properly. Further clarification might help: the tutorial has vln 1 and then vln 1a. Can these be played by one instance of VSL or do they need to be separated?

    Thanks

  • Noone has stepped in with an answer which means.....?

At any rate, I found out the answer through a little digging. When you download a 'tutorial' of a demo in the DEMO ZONE, what you get are the fxp files (or presets) for that midi file. I have done this a number of times to learn how others have managed such excellent results. I have studied the setup of the matrices and had a look at the guts of the midi file in my sequencer (which is Digital Performer). DP downloads extra tracks (those containing only matrix key switches) and so there appear to be more tracks than the originator created. You only have to create one plug in (instance) of VSL for each track containing midi notes.

Meanwhile, I'll continue talking to myself until I get this powerful and iimpressive library and its operation somewhat under control.

  • Each preset belongs to an individual instance.

Thanks for that, Herb. A very simple and clear explanation is always best.

    With appreciation
