  • VSL Perf problem: my USB MIDI has only one port

    Dear experts,
I just set my system and wanted to start learning when I found out that the USB keyboard I have is recognized as one midi port. The problem is that the Performance tool requires me to have 4 MIDI ports, of which port 1 will be dedicated to it, and the rest set in GIGASTUDIO.

What do I do? Do I really have to connect through a midi cable instead of my USB? My sound card doesn't have a MIDI I/O.

Is there a program that will route my USB MIDI signals to virtual MIDI ports? I tried using Maple, but of course that program only bridges between programs and does not send my USB MIDI signals to its own MIDI ports.

    Please help [8-)]

  • welcome Algreco,
basically i think mostly it wouldn't make much sense to connect your source (keyboard) to all 4 ports of gigastudio simultaneously, so you could simply change the input of the performance tool as needed.

question is now if your USB midi is multi-client capable (means: does it allow to get selected as source for all 4 ports in the performance tool) - if not, you had to un-assign say port 1 (in performance tool in) before assigning port 2.
AFAIK midi over lan is capable to make midi devices multi-client resp. mirror midi to other devices and ports. have a look at musiclab.com, they should have a try-out version.

ps: possibly i didn't understand your question correctly, because *and the rest set in GIGASTUDIO* confuses me a little bit.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Ok,

After some trying out (much) I installed a midi driver called Maple. It installs 4 virtual midi ports wihch passes information between programs. I then simply followed the instructions of VSL's perf tool and set the right Ins and Out, just substituting Nemsys with Giga (the new port's name) and VSL Router's with Maple.

Thanks for the help anyway cm.
By the way, i meant by "the rest set in Gigastudio" that port 2 to 4 of the Maple, was set in Giga studio respectively, but actually, with Perf tool V.2 you don't do it this way. The instructions are different then for Perf tool V.1
