I'm having problems loading patches into GS suddenly. I get "Unknown system error - can't download 'x' patch". GS showing only 50% full. It can be any patch - nothing points to specific files being corrupted.

The files are stored on a Firewire La Cie 500 and haven't been problematic till now.

Anyone any ideas?

I've had sporadic problems like these - one of the reasons I started to loathe GS. I could only solve it by a reinstallation of Windows. Are you certain you've not just reached the load limit? Have you previously loaded more than 50%?

It's a new PC from Carillon. Very high spec, speed and RAM. Actually, I was wrong about the 50% figure - it's a crappy 35%!!!!!

My other PC, a P4, loads up to 50%. It used to get higher than that, so I've no idea why it's so awful now.

I seem to remember a while back doing a RegEdit adjustment but I can't for the life of me remember how to do it and which settings I made. Mattias - are you there?!!

For memory/U.S.E. issues, and for additional insight regarding "percentages" (and how much/little attention to pay to them), check out these two threads:

Since my last post I've delved back into the world of memory and XP. I've tried all the presets in the Memory Config Panel and run the memory tests but only achieve 36% capacity (562 bytes)

The task manager msg32.exe figures were

3572 just Windows
13,248 with GS3 loaded
529,976k with 32%
600,000k with 36%

Thereafter it gave me the Unknown System Error we all love to read!

I'm a bit confused as to how a 2Gb damn fast new PC can only take a small number of instruments loaded. It's actually worse in performance than my older PC!

I would suggest you invest in the GVI - you can get a discount as a GS3 owner (over here it costs less than £50). GVI is a regular VST plugin so it doesn't suffer from the memory access restrictions that GS does.

I use Plogue Bidule to host it along with GS3 (in Rewire mode). GVI doesn't feature a mixing section (as GS3 does) but you can host VST plugins in Bidule that can do a similar job.

Surely that can't be the only solution. I used to run 64 instruments in GS, most of them VSL.

Can anyone recommend any RegEdit combinations other than the presets that Mattias has designed?

I'm sure that I posted my tweaks for my carillon machines, but I don't have time to look now. I was loading around 1047MB I think.

Great. That's probably about the most you will get. How much does that equate to in Task Manager?
