  • Vienna Key Problem

    Hey,

I'm completely new to these forums and I've searched for a similar problem/answer to the one I'm having, but haven't had any luck. I received my Vienna Special Edition yesterday and was very excited to try it out. I followed all the installation instructions very carefully and watched the videos and everything.

Then when I went to the Directory Manager it didn't show anything. It was empty. I tried telling it where to look and dragging and dropping the folder into the Directory Manager but it doesn't seem to help.

Eventually I came to the forums and searched around... then I discovered that according to the website my Vienna Key is registered to another user and I haven't registered any products. It's saying this even though I *just* registered them just an hour or two earlier.

I even have the email in my inbox with the activation code telling me that the Special Edition is registered. I did email support@vsl.co.at but haven't heard anything yet. I know this was just yesterday, but I really want to try it out! [:)]

  • welcome jonathan,
checking your records i found a double registration and merged your accounts - everything should now work again as expected.

the license appears to be downloades successfully to your ViennaKey, but in case you're on a mc i'd check if your custom data folder is set and the respective location has read & write permissions.

also i'd recommend to use the directory manager only if no vienna instruments player is open and reboot after changing or adding new locations (to make sure everything is re-read)

  • Thanks Christian,

The website is recognizing everything now. I did make sure the custom data folder has read & write permissions. Directory Manager still doesn't show anything when I open it though. So when I go into Standalone program it just shows empty preset on the right hand side and I can't double-click anything on the left. Should I reinstall it?

  • shouldn't be neccessary ... just make sure you're using the drag&drop method to add locations, because the *add* button doesn't add subdirectories.
in other words: you should see the list after doing so.

have you rebooted and is the list still there (in DM) after the reboot?

ps: any hint to your operating system and host appreciated [;)]

  • It's a MacPro OS X 10.4.1 running Logic Pro... but I've just been testing things with Standalone so I don't have to open and close Logic every time. Well the folder won't even stay in Directory Manager after I drag and drop it in then close and reopen DM.

  • this looks like the folder has problems related to permissions.
please set an alternative location (check read & write permissions for security) and repeat the process ....
hopefully this will solve it - uninstalling an app on OS X would be not so much fun ...

  • I checked the permissions on everything and I'm still having trouble. I actually reinstalled on an external drive and I'm still having the exact same problem even though all permissions are correct. Any other ideas??

  • I had to repair the disk permissions using the Disk Utility program on my Mac. It's working now! Thanks

  • good to hear you solved it - the disk utility does miracles in certain cases.
