  • RARE: Young Shostakovich Playing end of op.35 (1934?)

  • Good heavens: that is fantastic! Thank you.

There's an absolute wealth of real music on YouTube if only you search for the actual artist.

My favourite is a very rare performance by Alfred Cortot of "Der Dichter spricht" from Schumann's "Kinderscenen" - marvellous.

Just give it 40 seconds to get into the actual music itself...

Or try for (e.g.) Earl Wild, Horowitz, Tauber, del Monaco, Ponselle, Solomon...

    The list is endless.

  • That's interesting how good Shostakovich was as a pianist. Also, I don't understand French, but Cortot's face seems to express so much you almost don't have to in order to know what he is saying about the music. Being a Schumann disciple, that is great to see.

  • Speaking of favorites here's mine, some rare footage of Gershwin and friends.

    and to compliment:

Pretty dark clip, when he sits at the piano, reminds me of an old black and white dracula picture. I think the students in the back are witnessing their last recital, little they know.... [6] [6] [6]
