Hello,
I am sure that there are already similar threads out there. So please let me know.

How to organize a string orchestra setup within cubase in connection with KONTAKT and the performance tool? Just to let you know up front I want to record string arrangments not by playing keyboard directly but by using the keyeditor and put each note in position with my mouse step by step.

1. What is the best way to switch between articulations from note to during a melody line?
2. By alternation mode?
3. Or do I really need to create a midi track for each articulation?
4. Can I switch between articulations through midi programm changes?
5. Do you use keyswitch patches? Or do you prefer to use more midi tracks?

Regards,

You can have all articulations assign to one midi channel if you want.

How much experience do you have with Kontakt 2?

Can you build your own instruments?

Have you tried instrument banks?

I personally use a mix of both instrument banks and one large instrument assign to bank 1 inside the instrument bank. The large instrument contains all my long notes like sustain, esspressivo, dynamics, tremolo, trills etc.. and the rest of the instrument like perf_leg, repetitions, alternation, RR etc.. are assign to their own bank. I then use program change in the controller view of my midi editor to switch from one articulation to an other. I choose program 0 to select my long notes and then use the mode wheel to select what ever long notes i want.

So basically i use tow controller to switch articulations. Program change to switch in the bank and the mode wheel(CC 1) to switch between my long notes.

There are some benefits to this way of doing things and some disavantages. Let me know if you want to know more?

BTW you don't need the performance tool as it is included in Kontakt 2.

I'm new to kontakt 2 and VSL. Is there any tutorial on how to use all these things you mentioned?

How do you have the performance tool included in kontakt2? Scripts? Which ones?

How do you use the perf_leg instruments in kontakt2? Any tutorial on this?

Thanks in advance

Here are a couple of tutorials:

http://www.matsc.net/Kurs/Kontakt%202%20Eng/Introduction.htm

http://kevintweedy.net/TUTORIALS.htm

There's book here:

http://www.amazon.com/Kontakt-Power-Comprehensive-Guide/dp/159863030X/ref=sr_11_1/104-5808697-6363100

You can also by the DVD tutorial. It's good for beginner.

Reading the manual is always a good idea.

And you can start by study how an instrument is built, don't be afraid to go there.

There's no need for performance tool in K2 as it is done by scripts that load automatically with you instrument. Cool

Good luck!

Hello Xico,

please find the VSL manuals on Kontakt2 along with the programs you can download here.
All performance instruments are scripted in Kontakt2. You simply load the performance legato and play Smile
