  • Question re importing others' presets

    Hi All,

Downloaded the tutorial folder of the Thomas Tallis demo (great job, btw!). Was just kinda curious how others are setting up their sequences/presets, so I wanted to load up a few of the tracks and check it out. I copied the presets from the tutorial folder into its own subfolder and placed that subfolder in the VI Custom Data Folder. The presets show up in the VI interface. They load fine. But they make no sound. BTW I made sure that it was a preset that referenced patches from the Cube - I do have licenses for the patches in question.

Interestingly, as a test, I tried adding a matrix of my own to a free matrix slot in one of these presets - it didn't play either. It's not a routing problem - when I deinstantiate the plug-in, reinstantiate, then load up one of my own presets, it plays fine.

Is there some sort of scanning of the library I need to do to get presets the play that have been manually copied to the VI Custom Data Folder?

    Thanks,
    Peter

  • O...K... figured it out! The presets in the folder for the Thomas Tallis demo were optimized. Having never done that myself, didn't think of it. I hadn't actually hit play on the sequencer before posting my first message - rather I had been trying to make sure that I could hear the sounds by attempting to play them from my MIDI keyboard, and must not have chosen notes that were still in the preset. So I "reset" the presets in the performance panel of each VI interface, and they worked fine. Now if I only had the Appassionata Strings, I could hear the whole thing! Re the power of optimizing - before my "reset", one of the presets was 3 MB; after, it was 581 MB.

Interestingly, VI also allowed me to load those presets that were derived from the Appassionata Strs even though the samples/patches/matrices are nowhere to be found in my system. Should I have gotten a "sounds missing" message?

  • if you load something and the sample data is missing you get the *wave file not found* message - if you don't have the license for the respective collection VI cannot even search for them.
but of course it would be a good marketing gag to display something like *you are still missing collection x* or so ...

Had the same thought re marketing![:)]

So, you're saying that I didn't get the "file not found" message because I don't have the license, but VI still let me load the soundless preset?

    Interesting.

  • i'd assume this is related to the nature of .fxp-files - what happens if you load some inheriting say referring an effect plugin which you don't have on your system, probably it would just ignore it.

  • Hello

At the risk of hijacking this thread, I have two questions.

I am at the point of wanting to use a couple of J Bacal's tutorials to better learn my SE level one and App. Strings.  Q 1 - Has J Bacal posted any tutorials  using only the level one instruments?

I have tried to load one SE tutorial listed in the demo section (it appears obviously more than the level one instruments) but cannot get the preset to show in Ensemble 3. Q2 - Does the preset file load directly into my user file in the documents  VSL section?

    thank you,
