    Hello forum,
Two weeks ago I purchsed VI Special Edition and set it up on my iMac . Due to issues I was having with RAM size, and through discussions with Ilio, the US dealer and support company for Vienna and Spectrasonics (which I also use) it was decided that I needed a computer with more power.

So, I purchased a Mac Pro Tower with 8 gigs of ram running 2X2.66 Intel processors and now have a total of about 2 TB of hard drive space. Due to the new platform I've had to upgrade Logic and am now running, again at Ilio suggestion, Logic 7.2.3, OSX 10.4.9, RMX 1.6.0 (for Intel) which works, the latest upgrade for MOTU 828mk2 (which does not work now) and VI for Intel 1.11 which also does not work now.

I've been on the phone with Ilio (they are wonderful) but the fellow there does not know Logic so I need to wait until tomorrow when another person is in.

I really need to get to work on my score but cannot (I should learn to always stay away from the leading edge and will in the future) so I'm calling on Forum users knowledge.

Does anyone have experience with these issues?

    Thanks,

    Ed

  • question:

How much, if you don't mind me asking, was your mac? It's pretty sweet and I'm in the market for a new DAW

  • 4.8K Canadian - a great deal because the store had used the CPU for a few months. Not such a great deal though as I can't get any work done at the moment. Ed

  • ed, how can we be of help resp. what does not work in detail? you mention logic works, but the motu fails, so this appears to be more a driver issue with motu than a problem with logic.
and regarding VI: does it not install, does it not open, not load any patches or give no sound - if the latter: have you tried to use the stand-alone player with internal audio already?

  • Thanks CM,
I had an email this morning from Maya and she took me through a reinstall of VI SE licences etc... When complete I am at the same place and you may be correct that this is an 828 driver issue though...?

VI SE works as a standlone as opened from my desktop and is using the 828 as it's driver.

I get the same message from Logic "Core Audio: Vienna Ins not available" when opening my previous Vienna/Logic autoload. Once open all the VI instances have a line though them so it may be a Logic issue - I don't know,

Thanks for any liight you can shed on this,
    All the best,

    Ed

  • i'm almost sure maya also mentiond to verify/repair permissions on your system volume (disk utility) and try manual validation for VI from the respective logic menu. if the motu sounds with the stand-alone it should also do so with VI as plugin

  • Problem solved - Aaron at ILIO led me through the process to correct the problem: Under Logic preferences, select Start Logic AU Manager and see the list of AU's selected - Vienna was unselected - select, OK and proceed. Back running - thanks Aaron and all who helped out, Ed
