  • Performance Set English Horn

    Herb and company -

Just picked up the pro edition. Congrats on producing a fantastic set of "extended" instruments. I'm on my third day, and still haven't installed the whole thing!

Question: The Performance set English horn, while superb, suffers from the same malady as does the oboe: it doesn't have any vibrato! Do you plan on making a version with vibrato as a downloadable .gig file, as you do with the oboe?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • I've just discovered the same problem.

It means that, like the oboe, I can't use the Cor Anglais. I know vibrato is a taste and country thing, but I can't remember hearing one classical recording of an Oboe or Cor Anglais being played without vibrato (I know there's bound to be some, but.........).

Sorry to moan Herb, it's just that all of the other woodwinds are so incredible and I'd love to be able to use the Oboe and Cor.

    Andy.

p.s. the Contra Basson is amazing!

  • Our french oboe player (a real vibrato virtuoso) is also a competent english horn player.

So I don't see a big problem to fulfill your wishes.

    best wishes
    Herb

  • Just got the pro edition update as well. It's wonderful so far......but.....

I have the same complaint as the others above with the english horn and the oboe. Glad to know that you are working on some versions with vibrato! Can't wait to get them!

  • That's great Herb.

Do you think the vib oboe/cor will be bundled as a free upgrade to the Pro Edition, or will they feature in a seperate future release (I'm obviously hoping they'll be free!)?

    Andy.

  • I agree with the above statements. There is a simple work around untill the vibrato expert gets recorded and processed. I use the sustain vibrato English horn with the Perfornance legato. The 2 are practically seamless and i like the tone of the horn, so though it may not be perfect, I'm quite content with it for now.

  • I found the same workaround for the oboe - dropping in notes or pairs of notes from the sustained 'MV' samples. It's not easy to integrate, and the pitch doesn't quite match for crossfading, but when it works it can really come alive. Another useful one to use for longer notes is the sustained PV sample.
Anyway, it looks as if we're all looking forward to the update!!

    All the best,

    Simon
