  • Planning to purchase chamber strings

    Hello,

I own the SE standard package and I'm considering to purchase the chamber strings instead of SE extended. I read somewhere in this forum that chamber strings doesn't include runs so I would like to review the patches included in chamber standard/extended but it seems that the VSL web site doesn't shows such info anymore. Could some one help me to find such data? Do you know when the web site will work again as in the past?

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Regards,

    Eduardo

  • I own chamber strings standard... I could show you what it sounds like. Maybe chamber strings don't need runs? Old technology?

This is using Perf Trill: http://www.elanhickler.com/d/perftrill.mp3

    rayspace reverb, violas

  • Elan,

Thanks a lot for sharing this mp3. It seems that with perf.trill you can do very good things. May I ask you if chamber strings standard only includes also perf.repetition patches and no vibrato ones?

    Thanks again,

    Eduardo

    Hi Eduardo

Listen to the 3 examples: 1. Solo Violin, 1. Chamber Violins, 1. Orchestra Violins
    http://www.beat-kaufmann.com/VSL/BK_Violins_LegatoRuns_SE.mp3

I used the normal legato(!) for these demos. As Elan posted above. If you are going to use the perftrill articulations you will get runs which sounds even better than the examples above.

Of course, real sampled runs have the most natural sounds - but the timing of them is often...

Generally, perf repititions aren't vibrato/non-vibrato specific. What you would get with the extended edition is portamento repitition (sound maybe more soft than legato repition) and dynamic repition where you go from soft to loud or loud to soft with each repition.

note: pitch bending has nothing to do with this.

  • I'm really convinced that I have to own the chamber strings. Thanks to Elan and Beat for sharing info and demos. I also found some other demos in the VSL web site.

    Thanks again
