  • Any plans for more velocity layers?

Just as an example, I think the solo trumpet needs another velocity layer before the loudest one. The transition is just too abrupt. I'm sure there are other instruments that would benefit as well.

Are there any plans to record more velocities for the solo instruments? It's particularly important for them since crossfading doesn't work, as it does with the string ensemble.

  • That's a very good point. I've always known you can't crossfade solo instrument velocity layers, but until you mentioned I never realized that that relaly does warrant more velocity layers for realism. That said, I think that most of the solo instruments do have 3 or 4 velocity layers as it is right now. perhaps not the legato instruments, but the LONG_NOTES.

  • Yes, it seems reasonable to request more velocities, particularly for the shorter articulations (staccato through 1.0 sec.)

The only way to really avoid noticeable velocity jumps is to have approx. 8 velocity layers, imo. Once you have this, you can really shape lines musically.
