  • KingIdiot - please help - problem with VSL and Kontakt

    Dear King,

After installing the 1.5.2 update, it was the first time ever I gave Kontakt a try to load VSL-patches... (until now, I only used it for some A.O. stuff...)

I'm using the Giga Batch Conversion, but on nearly every third .gig (I only tested the free update dvd) Kontakt says: "This file seems to be corrupted or incomplete..." What's going on here ? I also converted them to HALion some weeks ago and everything went fine there...... Should I just ignore those messages ?? I want to completely reimport the entire thing (First Edition), but want to get sure not to miss something after conversion...
Hope you can help me out of this....

    Greetings and thanks,
    Seb

  • its possible that the gigs themselves are corrupt.

I've run into this issue sometimes tho, try ignoring it. It may work. You should be able to compare the gig intrument list to the nki instrument list. To make sure you didn't miss any instruments.

  • seb, i've not done it by my own, but i've been told this happens if the importer of Kontakt cannot interpret the mapping as it's intended - you have to put your hands on those patches by your own - and it might get really timeconsuming then ....

  • Hi Christian,

so far I can see no difference between the "corrupted" patches in Kontakt, compared to them in Halion...

My guess is: Kontakt simply has problems with the empty "programs" like "BASIC INSTRUMENTS" etc. which normally function as "headers" to seperate the different kinds of patches inside one .gig. That could be a reason why he says they are corrupted or may be INCOMPLETE.
Well, I will go on check this. (If you want to check it by your own - please import for example the harp pentatonic file from the update dvd)

    Greetings,
    Seb

  • seb, this is apossible reason (IIRC an empty sample is mapped to those *headlines*)
another problem could ocurre with instruments which have two controllers applied

  • My experience is that this almost always happens because of the reason Seb mentioned. I always get this message, even for instruments I know for sure imported perfectly. If it's because of multiple controllers some of the groups will be named "unsupported dimension." This should no longer happen in 1.5.2 though. For the most part, even 1.5.1 did a terrific job of importing most giga files. It runs into problems with instruments which have samples with a wide variety of attack times. I haven't tried these with 1.5.2 to see if this is still the case. The velocity scaling could be better too.
