  • (Now with Cubase) I can't bounce in Sonar 4 with VSL Perf...

I’m not getting to bounce a track while using VSL Performance Tool.

    I have the following components:
    - Sonar 4
    - Gigastudio 3 (rewired)
    - VSL Performance Tool
    - VSL Midi Router
    - VSL Solo Violin (samples)

To use VSL Solo Violin with "Performance Legato" samples, I have to use VSL Performance Tool.
But to use VSL Performance Tool, I have to install VSL Midi Router to create additional midi ports to VSL Performance Tool.
So, in my Sonar violin track, I choose a VSL Midi router port, which points to VSL Performance Tool, which points to GigaStudio 3, which is rewired with Sonar 4.
    Ex.:
    Sonar 4 -> VSL Performance Tool -> GS3 (rewired)

When I bounce my track, I receive an empty audio track.
    Does anyone know the solution?

  • Ok, does anyone know how can I bounce (render) a track using VSL Performance Tool, GS3 and Sonar?

  • Is this problem only arising when bouncing and you can play back your piece normally? As a temporary solution (or a check if the midi routing is correct) you can try to bounce your track with the bounce feature in GS3.

  • I understand your problem completely. I was having this same issue with Cakewalks Home Studio 2004 XL with an identical computer setup you have . After many hours of research and tech support calls it seems that the performance tool needs to be played in real time to collect the sampled data. Unfortunatley Sonar and Home Studio dont allow real time bouncing or mix down. I'm sure VSL will address this issue in the near future. If you can't wait.....Get Cubase SL 3.0 or SX 3.0. They allow this real time mix down (bouncing tracks) and it works with the Performance tool.

  • have you tried using the slow bounce instead of the fast bounce? I know Sonar 3 had problems with the fast bounce.

    calaf

  • Sonar 4 have a realtime bounce, however it's not working with this feature:

    1) Sonar have a DXi (Rewire) linked with Gigastudio 3
    2) Sonar have a track with output as VSL MIDI Router Out 1
    3) VSL Performance Tool have MIDI INPORT as VSL MIDI Router In 1 and MIDI OUTPORT as GigaOut[:P]ort 1/Control
    4) Gigastudio 3 is loaded with a VSL Violin Solo sample (VI_perf-leg_f)

When I make the "bounce" (fast or realtime, whatever), Sonar make the rendering process, but I receive an empty audio track.

But Sonar work well when I don't use VSL Performance Tool and the track is configured with output directly as Giga 3.

Could be simply a wrong configuration?
Could be a VSL Midi Router bug?
Could be a VSL Performance Tool bug?
    Could be a Sonar bug?

I don't know, but for now I'm doing a rudimentar audio capturing with a 3rd part audio editing software, cutting, mixing, saving, importing, aligning, adjusting, etc.

But if anyone have another solution...

  • You could rule out MIDI problems (and Performance Tool problems) if you're trying to bounce your file with Giga. If that works it either has to do with the realtime bouncing or ReWire is not working correctly. I also suspect this, because you also said you can capture to a third party audio software, so the Performance Tool seems to do its job there.

  • I'm almost convinced that is a Sonar 4 bug...
Does anyone have the same configuration working correctly with another sequencer (Cubase, etc.)?

  • Greetings,

I was having the same problem with similar setups you all have. I believe it is a bug in cakewalks software, OR just some incompatibility. HomeStudio2004XL also exhibits the same behavior when mixing down audio with the VSL performance tool.....Just got no data at all in those tracks. This prompted me to get CUBASE SL 3.0. (about $300.00). Now the realtime mix down feature works great, and if it weren't for this feature, I'd still be using CakeWalk.

  • What a disappointment...

Is Cubase so much better than Sonar?

  • Roger,

Cubase isn't better than Sonar at all. They do the same thing. I think most the head guys at VSL use Cubase, therefor VSL is programmed and tested more naturally with Cubase. I think Herb the CEO at VSL uses Cubase. I bought Cubase because I couldn't wait for this fix in CakeWalk. Worse case scenario is you'll have to deal with the extra step until they find away to patch this hole.

Well, I'd have to disagree. I used Sonar for years, but once I started up with Cubase (Nuendo), I never looked back.

Don't get me wrong, sonar is a great app. But, IMO, Cubase is much, much better.

  • Hi just got confused on the cakewalk compatability.

cakewalk - is it possible to MIXDOWN internally using the vsl performace tools. According to the forum people are having problems BOUNCING to tracks .
However, it may only be this persons set up. Is there a recomended set up for use with cakewalk. I mix everything internally, and want to deal with cables and noise gates etc, as little as possible.

Gigastudio - is the requirment gigaSAMPLER will not do?

  • You can always bounce in Gigastudio and import the wav files to Sonar. GS3 also supports Rewire (more or less, some seem to have trouble with it). So no cables needed for both.

Not sure what you meant with your question about GigaStudio/GigaSampler?

Well, after some time I have now Cubase SX3, and (unbelievable!), now I got render my midi tracks with VSL Performance Tool directly in my sequencer...

But I still have a problem: I just can render in "real time" option on, i.e., when I try to render in the normal mode (fast), I get like a "quantized" audio...

So, there was not a much better solution... [[[:(]]] [[[:(]]] [[[:(]]]

Does anyone know how can I render a track using VSL Performance Tool, Cubase SX3, Gigastudio 3, VSL Midi Router, all these things, in a "fast" (normal) render?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi rogeriodec,
Don't know if this comes to you to late...but...I've figured out how to bounce vsl via performance tool in sonar.
Let me know if you need this info....works great, no bugs (have to use slow bounce) I have sonar 4 studio ed.

Thanks, Billy. I would like to know these methods.

  • Hi rogeriodec,
I will get this together for you and give you a detailed description - took me like 6 hrs to figure out! The documentation is well...you know.
I'll check out my configuration when I get home (at work now..drudge)
Briefly off the top of my head i'll try to explain:
You need 3 (midi) tracks for an instrument:
One going to the perf. tool -
One coming from the perf tool -
and One to record the midi info coming from the perf tool track AFTER you've inputted it (live or step time) - so 3 tracks - I call them..say:
    Track 1 = Vn1 to Ptool
Track 2 = Vn1 from Ptool (nothing gets recorded on this track) but you MUST have the monitor button ON in this track to hear what your playing when playing on track 1
    Track 3 = Vn1 data from Ptool

Record music onto track 1 (monitor button ON in track 2)
Then select Record for track 3 - hit record up top and the music from track 1 will record into track 3 (if you look at this music in Staff tool it will look whackey).
To bounce to tracks Select the Kontakt synth output track and TRACK 3!
    NOT TRACK 1 or 2!
When the bounce dialog comes up deselect fast bounce - and thats it....
Should work fine - it has for me so far - if you need more configuration info like inputs/outputs for individual tracks let me know...I wish all this had been in a manual somewhere as I'm sure you do!
    All the best.....

    Wow! It's a hard work, isn't?

In the fact I would like to create a "fast bounce" but since it's not possible, I'm thinking if isn't better to do the following:

    1) Create an audio track
    2) Set my windows volume control to record "what I heard".
    4) Turn on the SOLO button on all the VSL Performance tracks
    3) Turn on the RECORD button on the audio track
    4) Start to record...

    Isn't it easier?

    What do you thing?

  • I'm not sure - I'd have to try this when I get home, does sound easier though......
I know alot of people use VSL for professional work - but wow at this rate I wouldn't want to try to turn out a project in a few days!
