  • What are the best SYMPHONIC orchestral libraries that exist?

    The only symphonic-orchestral libraries I know are: Vienna; Miroslav; EastWest; and the much less desired Garritan;

In my opinion, VSL is the best, offering the most realistic sounds - whereas, EastWest's sounds are excellent but very Hollywood, and the brass is not very good, for the most part.

SO, what is the best and what are the best subsets that might be from other manufacturers - i.e. the brass from ........

    Thanks,
    steve

Hmmm...I wonder why it's so popular then.

  • I've just figured out how to use VSL pro ed.
I know kind of slow, but I cant believe the true sounds of the horns as well as the different kind of flutes and woodwinds that are available.
I learned how to freeze tracks today. And I can asure any body, you can set up a file of more than seventy instruments for SCORE mind you, and still manage to double tracks or triple and freeze files. Unbelievable !! .
Al the cres. instruments worked in real time.

    I'm bought.

The VSL team catch a lot of huey sometimes.
They don't get enough credit due.

    Thanks !!

Take a look at http://www.ilio.com/ or http://www.bestservice.de/ or http://www.soundsonline.com/ or any other dealer... there are quite some more than only these 4 library developers...

I'm in Logic EXS. In logic you have an option on the tracks to freeze a track if you don't want it to use the CPU .So in the parts of a sequence where alot of instruments are used, ;ie ( piccolo, tympany's,cres trombones, snare, percussions etc.) The CPU gets drained and polyphony so to speak is cut off.So if one uses the freeze tracks, then all instruments whale in dynamics. The sound is tremendous.
I'm kind of late on this issue, but Its confirms this library to be the best at what it does.

    Hi JLB,

have you set the Performance Tool Legato to "HOR-LEGATO" for the Solo Strings? All Horizon Edition Legatos have a different mapping, so you won't hear anything (or next to nothing) when you use normal Legato.

    Hope that helps -

  • Yes I understand that, but my question is how can I make both tools existing?
    Thanks anyway.

  • Not sure what you mean by both tools existing at once.

All you need to do is select the appropriate function on each Midi Channel, in the Performance Tool eg. LEGATO or HOR-LEG or REPETITION etc etc.

You would use LEGATO for your normal PRO Legatos and HOR-LEG for the Solo Strings.

    Best

You have to watch if you got the Solo Strings from the Pro Edition (violin and cello that is) or from Horizon series. For easier use you should delete the solo strings gig's from Pro Edition and install the Solo Strings from Horizon series completely. These are almost identical gig-files. Almost only, because as pointed bout by the others, you need LEGATO for Pro Ed. files and HOR-LEG for Horizon files.

If you have only Horizon Solo Strings installed, you will then only have to select HOR-LEG for all Solo Strings.

If you need a second instance of the Performance Tool just copy the PerformanceTool.exe to a different location and run it from there.

To enable the LEGATO or HOR-LEG choice you have to make sure you registered both products in the user area and go through the activation process for both products.

Maybe an earlier post from cm about using Solo Strings and Pro Edition together could help you understand it...

    All the best,

  • Hi JBucchi,

I just sent you an email to answer your question!

In order to use the Performance Tool with both our Symphonic Editions and the Horizon series, you simply have to download and install the so-called Combi Tool (Performance Tool 1.08 for all Editions EXS24 mkII on MacOS X) from the User Area of our website.
