  • bit confused about SE installation-any help, please?

I tried installing once already & gave up because nothing worked....now I'm hoping for a few words from the wise, would appreciate a quick pointer: 1) what are the default installation locations? Are they compulsory, and do they have to have specific names for everything to work? 2) Can I install the content on my network RAID volume (I don't have the space on my internal drive)? Excuse my wanting to shortcut the RTFM process, but time is short and I'm sure it can't be that hard really!!! ;-) Thanks! Nigel

    Hi Nigel,

you could also follow the onscreen video tutorial on your Software CD, you also find it here

In very short: Please register your collection and your Vienna Key here.

Then download the latest VI Software and the latest Syncrosoft LCC.

Install the Syncrosoft LCC and download your license (Wizards=>Download license) to your Vienna Key.

Install the Vienna Instruments Software. This will also provide you with a Library Installer. Run the Library Installer, locate "package.info" on your first DVD, insert the other DVDs when asked.

You can store the VI content whereever you like.

That is the short version of the short version on the Quick Installatio Guide (the yellow/orange sheet) you see first when you open your VI collection [:)]

  • Hi Paul

I am also having problems getting the Special Edition to install. I have registered the product, got the activation code and when I look at the Licence Control Centre I see 'Vienna Instrumments' and 'Special Edition' there. I have also got the 1.12 software installed...but when I put the first DVD in and clicked on 'Library Installer' then 'package info' I got error messages saying the computer did not know what prgramme the file was created with. I have tried opening it with Wordpad, Notepad and Word and all they produce is unreadable garbage. Very frustrating!-and desperate to get the programme running for a session this weekend 27th. October. Your urgent help is required and would be much appreciated!

    Regards

  •  Hi John,

which OS are you working on, could you please give me some specs? Did you try a different DVD drive already, or maybe a different computer?

All you need to install the content is the latest Syncrosoft LCC  and your ViennaKey.

    Thanks for the additional info.

  • Hi Paul, and thanks for the quick reply. I'm on XP/SP2, and the PC has a dual core 2.14 with 2Gb RAM. I'm also using the digidesign 003 factory control surface and Pro Tools LE.

I am now also led to understand that this set-up is not supported...what are my options even if I can get it to install?

  • When you say you clicked on library installer, was this via Start/Programs/Vienna Instruments/Library Installer?

Having done this, did you then navigate to the DVD drive and click on package info?

    DG

  • Hi,

RTAS on PC is not a supported format, I´m afraid.

But that shouldn´t be in the way of an installation!

Did you take every step in the installation process as shown in the video?

There´s nothing that should prohibit an installation of the content!

    Best,

    Paul

  • Hi, and thanks for your interest. When I go to the Library Installer via Start/programs/VI/Library Installer it brings up a screen'select package.infofor the distribution media. This screen says 'look in vienna Instruments' and has a folder for custom data, which is empty. The file name is 'package' and the fils of type' says package.info'. When I click on 'open' it tells me'file not foun-please verify the correct file name was given'

If I re-insert DVD 1 before I use Start/programs/VI/ Library Installer I am taken straight to a screen with the package.info file and 6 cabinet files, however I cannot get this file to open with any program I have-it just produces garbage.

I have anothe problem in that I now understand that VI is not supported by my system. PC/XPSP2, Intel dual Core 2.14, 2Gb RAM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Regards

  • OK, assuming that you have installed the Vienna software and LCC correctly (and it sound like you have) you should do this:

    1) Put DVD1 in your drive first

    2) Click Start/programs/VI/Library Installer

    3) Navigate to package info on the DVD and click

    4) Follow instructions.

I can't help you with RTAS I'm afraid.

    DG

  • Hi John,

Sorry, I do not understand your explanation for 100%, so I'm not sure if you do it correctly.

You have to insert DVD 1, and start the "Library Installer.

When the "library installer" application is active, you have to navigate the installer applictation  to the "package info"

on DVD 1. So when the installer got the "package info" of the DVD the installation process starts.

    best

  • A note for Herb, Paul and DG...thanks to you guys for helping out. Now installed and functioning with the fxpansion wrapper. Seems OK up to a point at the moment...only run one instance yet, and found the problem mentioned elsewhere with blocks of the GUI greyed out each time you come to it. Also did not seem to want to run alongside Altiverb...crashed when I tried to run them together on a project. Anyone else had these problems, or solved them? Regards John Jewell
