Hello,  I received my chamber strings (standard) a few days ago and I 'm still trying to learn how to use it (I own SE only). It is really impressive. I also tried some presets from extended version (really good idea to allow us to try it for some days) and I noticed that perf-intervals patches include also a spiccato one. Could someone tell me what is the difference between Perf-interval-Spiccato and Short Notes? In which cases it recommended to use Perf-interval-Spiccato  instead of short notes? Thanks a lot for your help. Regards, Eduardo

I realized that, from my initial question, it is not clear that I'm referring to perf-interval spiccato patches (for example VI-6_perf-spiccato) and not to the repetition patches (VI-6_perf-rep_spi) which I think are focused to avoiding machine gun effect on repetitive passages. Eduardo

Hi Eduardo. A Performance Spiccato note has the previous note still ringing as the next note plays. To illustrate, hold down C4 (middle C) for a couple of seconds. Keep holding it and play C5. You will hear the previous C4 at the very start of the C5 sample.

Strictly speaking, spiccato is an "off the string" sound where intentionally (or by default due to a fast tempo) the bow is bounced off the string. VSL's "short" notes more often are on the string.

In practical usage, perf-spiccato is preferred for realism in faster passages. Standard short notes work better at slower passages when the strike of the bow is more isolated and not quite as springy. Also, of course, short notes allow you to play double and triple stops, whereas the perf-spiccato is monophonic.
