  • 64 bit FX-Teleport?

    Hi Folks -

Perhaps a better question for the Teleport forum, but is there a 64-bit version of Teleport yet?  My sample box (quad xeon, 8gb, XP x64) is teleport only, and I want to use all that RAM for VE.  If it works, I'm a-goin' to 16GB!  Then we'll see what breaks...(RAID0 1TB array, can go to 2 quad xeons).

Thanks for your help - this VE is the best thing EVER!  OK, I'm a little too excited.

    Best regards,

    Eric

  • Yes there is, but you may not need to use it. I'll let you know after today, when I'll be doing some testing.

  • Hi DG -

Thanks!  I think you're right - I haven't pushed the limits, but VE 64bit is launching "inside" 32Bit FX Teleport Slave, and reporting all 7.2GB!

I'm off for a week, so if you don't here back, its not 'cuz I'm rude...

    Best of luck,

    Eric

  • So, I have 32bit FXT hosting 64bit VE on XP64. I have managed to load approximately 7.5GB (according to Task Manager), with 16 instances of VI, before other processes start to suffer. However, the VE player initially took 400MB RAM even when empty. However, as soon as I started to load this went down to just over half that!

I can also load my 32bit plugs in FXT, as this uses the "normal" FXT memory, with a 4GB limit.

This is the kind of reporting I find really helpful. So with 8GB of RAM and 16 instances, could you give an example of what an instance contains? For example, is an instance for you, say, the Appassionata Strings Violins only, or would you load the entire section as a single instance?

As an orchestrator, if you were using Vienna Instruments only, are you able with VI to an entire orchestral cue with 8GB? 16GB? Or are we still looking at two systems?

Also, as an orchestrator, how has the use of an 8GB system with VI, improved your workflow and time management?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Peter, it's a bit early in the day to answer your questions.

I load 1 instrument as an instance of VI. 16 of these fit into one instance of VE. The testing was just a rough guestamate. In the real world I would be using around 36 instances of Vi spread over 6 instances of VE, but I couldn't be bothered to load an extra few instances for these tests.

However, 8GB is not quite big enough for my template, so my next machine will probably be 16GB. As to what it will be is still up in the air, due to other issues.

The XP64 machine is really only a test machine in my second studio. Studio 1 still has all slaves on XP32.

Actually, there will be very little difference in workflow when I do everything on one machine. I just think that it will probably make tracking at very low latencies much easier. Also, there are occasional network blips, and as the latest Nuendo will need real time mixdowns (for various reasons to do with the way I work), so if I can get everything on one machine, then this will be the best scenario.
