  • Ensemble and Sibelius 5.1

Apologies if this has been posted before but I haven't found anything and I hope I explain this clearly :)

I have a large orchestral score which uses 3 flutes which double up on piccs and alto flute as second matrices, each flute line has its own stave. I have the latest Vienna Ensemble sound set file from Sibelius' website and the latest Ensemble application but what I have found is the following which I can't seem to solve.

Flute 1 and 3 are set to sound id winds.flute and flute 2 is winds.flute2 (I can't remember the exact sound id names). All seems to have been setup correctly in sibelius i.e.Ensemble playback is set to manual sound set with 16 channels and the program names have been assigned. Sibelius mixer shows all 3 flute staves with the correct channel numbers 1-3 although I have to manually change flute 3 to be on channel 3. When flute 1 and 3 playback simultaneously Ensemble only shows input on flute 1 only which causes playback issues. I've also noticed the same with 4 horns, all on seperate staves, channel numbers allocated and only brass.horn.triple and brass.horn.triple.2 on 2 channels are triggered.

Is this a known issue or is there somehting I need to switch on to get both working?

Machine specs are Intel Core2 Duo 3Gig, Asus PW5DG2 WS Pro motherboard with 3Gb RAM, HDSP 9652, Windows XP Pro (32) LAA and /3gb switch have been implemented.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

  • Hello Mischa.

The problem you described is a known bug within Sibelius. Fortunately there is a workaround. If you haven't done it yet, download the sound set editor from the Sibelius home page and edit your sound set file. In the Patch List create a new patch for Flute 3, Horn 3 and Horn 4. They should be identical to the instruments with the same name that are already there, except the SoundID. This should be set to group.instrument.3 . Then in Sibelius you can choose the corresponding instruments in your playback configuration and they should play correctly.
