  • Score for a video game trailer

I have been asked to write a score for a trailer of a game called EvoChron Renegades. Though it is technically 'commercial', it's far from the big-guys.

Anyway, this game is space-orientated, and I tried to strike a balance of orchestral and electronica, in order to fill up the vast space that this game takes place in. I wanted to use synths and effects, but I didn't want to use them as a compensation for a lack of orchestral samples/skills. This is my third attempt, as I was really having trouble conveying a unified atmosphere through all of the somewhat random gameplay footage.

I'm not sure if I can share with you the trailer, but it's a safe bet sharing with you my score. All feedback (even bad) will be very much appreciated.

EDIT: Mind you, there is a 30 second silence at the beginning, to compensate for the video.

    Thanks for your time.

  • Sounds great!

Since you want some feedback, here are some "remarks" ;)

    - The mix is a bit to "dark" sounding here.

    - The end notes of the horns around 1:20 seem cut-off (a bit unnatural).

    - After the drumloop comes in, it soon dissappears in the orchestral crescendo; this didn't feel right for me. What you might wanna do is ride the volume fader of that track, let it come up aligned with the orchestra, or even cut it for a couple of bars. It could also use some appropriate compression that loop - well, in my opinion anyway. ;)

Just some ideas here, it already sounds very good!

Curious how it works with the images of the trailer.

To my ears you're 80% there.

    Best regards,

    -Emanuel

  •  Have you ever checked out Reaktor 5 ? The sounds for space are less groove and more unique. The piece  sounds good and coherent, the dynamics are clear . When the string motive entered towards the end, it seemed to come from nowhere, maybe it was the mix. Sounds like you have a handle on the commercial sound of todays film music concepts. Now push the envelope, forget that... you will be unemployed.
