  • Vienna Ensemble Panning not working in Sibelius

Hi, I can't get Panning to work in Sibelius 5.1 when working with VE. It doesn't matter, wether i youse VEs normal panning, Power-Panning or Sibelius own panning. All sounds are completely centered. How can i fix this? I am using OS X Leopard

  • It sounds like you have a routing problem. Make sure that the sounds are routed to the correct outputs in VE. This is definitely a VE problem, not Sibelius, so that should make things easier to sort out. FWIW, use power panning. It works much better. Sibelius panning doesn't work anyway with VE.

  • sibelius own panning actually should not work because it is purely MIDI based (at least this is my information) - you would simply increase/decrease volume of left/right channel so loosing stereo information. to avoid that please use powerpanning in VE, which AFAIK works also with sibelius (andi?)

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Both sorts of panning work with VE, but as cm says, Power panning is much better. To test this, solo the instrument in Sibelius, hit Play, go to the GUI of VE, see which output the sound is coming from, drag the little icons in the panning bit around and hear the sound jump around your speakers.

  • Thanks for your help. I found the cause of the problem. I had added the AUMAtrixReverb to the output. It seems, this causes the panning options to be useless. When adding reverb to the instruments themselves, or a recieving bus, the panning works. Now i have a new problem. I added more instruments to my composition. I had to add another instance of VE to add them. Now, if i use a reverb, i get a lot of noise during playback. If i switch off the reverb, some notes aren't playing. Like the Solo Violin Legato patch. When I solo them, they play, so i assume, that my computer just cannot handle the piece. I have a MacBook Pro 1,83ghz with 1,5 gb ram. The samples are on an external hdd that is connected via Firewire 400.

I have the same problem. If I add Panning to each instrument, and these instruments sound throught the Master Bus, and this Master Bus has assigned an AUMatrixReverb, the Panning is completely ignored.

But, If I add Panning to each instrument, and the AUMatrixReverb is assigned individually to all instruments separately, not to the Master Bus, then the panning and the reverb works fine, but many CPU is used.

How we can add Individual Panning to all instruments and the AUMatrixReverb to a Master Bus and all working fine?
