  • Rental Idea?

Good Day. I have a thought that I wanted to share and I am not trying to be cheap or confrontational, but have you guys at the VSL team considered doing something similar to the Subscription plan which is a "Rental Plan"?

Here is an explanation: I currently own the Solo Strings Standard and when I purchased it I was granted a 30 day Demo license and in that 30 days I was able to experiment a little, but I was busy trying to actually get work done,so I didn't get the full use of my demo period. However, I did discover that there were definitely some articulations in the Extended library that would be useful on a project that I am working on right now. Unfortunately $$$ is a little tight and I am still unable to purchase the extended library,BUT (and it's a big but)... if VSL offered a "Rental" plan in which I paid a fee for 30 more days, I might be able to afford that.

Yes I understand that if I use money for the rental that I am essentially spending money that I could use on purchasing the full library, but sometime it is more important to get an immediate "tool" and if it was say $40-$50 USD for thirty days, then I could gather that up much easier than the $575 usd that it will cost to upgrade.

Unfortunately, I am not a full time pro yet,and I don't make the kind of $$$ doing projects to justify such an expense as upgrading. Right now, I am only "semi-pro" and I would love to live like a pro [:P] but I understand that you get what you pay for and IF I could, I would go out right now and buy EVERTHING VSL has to offer,b/c I love the quality and integrity of the sounds and the players!!!!

So,my little suggestion is only to appeal to VSL to throw us semi-pro/hobbyists a bone to give us an idea of what we would all love to have...a complete VSL library!!!!![:)]

    Thanks for letting me share.

  • Hi luces. I can see the attraction of such an idea but I can't see VSL going for it. Unfortunately, I just don't think it would be in their interests to rent out a library for a month for $50 and I imagine it would be technically quite difficult to achieve. The 30-day trial period is probably the best way to get temporary access to the more expensive exended versions, and of course the Special Edition is aimed at people operating on smaller budgets. Just an opinion from another fan of VSL libraries!

  • You might be right Conquer, but technically it is VERY easy. Since every Standard library installs the Extended samples, all you would need is a temporary key to unlock and access those samples.[:D] I guess some would argue that,if VSL rented, then nobody would buy. However,I disagree,b/c I think that the VSL client is pragmatic and does realize that renting is kind of throwing $$$ away, but I also believe that it (a rental plan) would only entice users to ultimately buy the extended as soon as possible. Heck, maybe even offering a limited usage rental plan would be cool. Say something like, as a user you can rent the extended library 2 times or something similar before you have to decide to purchase.

As for the Special Edition, I am not trying to be mean, but I just don't think it sounds as good as the dedicated libraries. Of course, this is based on the demos and perhaps it is not fair make that judgement based on that criteria. Just my opinion. I also understand that not everyone can afford a Rolls ( and I am CERTAINLY one of those....duh[:(]),but I would prefer to spend a bit more in the long run and have the "better" stuff, if it is possible.[:)]

Oh well, I guess it is human nature to want what we want. Thanks for sharing in the discussion.

Me too! Most of the time I can't even afford a bicycle.[8o|] Anyway, good luck with your music-making and I hope you get a Lottery win or something so you can buy a few extended versions!

  • Bah, Rolls...

I want an Aeromax :) Can't afford both but a bike though...

  • uhh great, an automobile which still has mudguards ... so you can recognize it as a car and not some moving easter egg ;-)

back to the topic. the rental idea came up lately comparing to some japanese font-rental ... basically interesting idea, but i'd assume the terms of license would need a huge rework for such an option ... technically not really a problem ...
