  • clarinet in special ed isn´t loud enough

Hi there! I just bought the special edition + extended. It´s great! But I´m a bit confused about the clarinet in b. Alone it sounds really great, but in the ensemble it goes down (sorry my English), it is only with difficulties to hear, because the attack is too long I think. What ideas have the experienced users out of you?

The other thing is: Why doesn´t exist any muted horn? Muted horns are often used in common orchestras. Why does this library doesn´t have any sample?

  • Not sure if I understand your question but you do have to mix the end results with VSL you can't just leave everything at the default 0db on your faders and hope it will all sit together beautifully.  The mixing forum has quite a few tips and there are even some templates you can use from people such as Hetoreyn and Beat Kaufman.

Also there are muted horns, but they are only in the larger libraries.

    Best

  • Hallo! Thank you for the hint!

  • Yes, my experience with Vienna is that the Bb clarinet has a slow attack on the sus and legato patches - kind of like a pp style of playing. In ensemble groups you have to use the velocity crossfade to get the louder articulations so that it can be heard. Good luck with it! Robert

  • try to put a staccato-sample into the second cell and use cell-xfade to adjust levels.... maybe this helps
