  • Unconvinced...until under my own hood.

Hello there, I am a British composer with his gaze firmly transfixed on the seemingly excellent Appassionata strings library. However I am not convinced by the demos which seem to always misrepresent the library. There is far too much low end on the Appassionata 1 DEMOS-heck what the ACTUAL library is like beats me. For this reason Id like to know if there are any demos posted on the internet by people who have Appassionata 1-what Im looking for is that supposedly great legato, so capacity for slow movements are what Im after.

I already have EW, which is fantastic. Sonivox sounds incredibly synthy. I am a staunch critic of all products, being a businessman, only accept the best products will be of use. I would please like to know if any of you may have some demos of Appassionata-which showcases its expressive potential in the upper registers. Heck, take the basses off!

A lot of the Appassionata demos seem to detract away from this. No staccatos. No pizz. Just pure lush legato-Im looking for a good string library, and people recommend APP 1, but I really need a bit more convincing.

    Cheers,

    Dave.

  •  Dave,

I completely agree......I wish more articulations would have been included in the new SE downloads, but, sorry, sustain and staccato patches are not going to give me nearly enough "demo".......

The audio demos here have not sold me at all, so hopefully we can locate some others....

  • There isn't anything out there by a developer better than Appassionata. I've heard them all. The violins alone are worth the cost of the entire library. They are stunning (as are the rest of that collection.) I work in film in LA where everybody talks about sample libraries and everyone has been talking about (and buying) VSL's Appassionata Strings.

  • "Sonivox sounds incredibly synthy" They can all sound synthy if you don't know what you're doing or if you don't hide their weaknesses, but I can't agree with that as a general comment about SI.

  • I don't have them but I would buy them with the App con sordino collection too if sampled strings are what you will be using mostly. I will almost certainly get these when I get round to it.

Jut one thing worth remembering - an orchestral string section only have to play a sustained chord and you'll never get near it with any samples from any planet in the universe and that's a FACT.

So if the string sound is going to be ultra-critical to your production, then use real players - if not, then based on what I've heard so far, the two App libraries are probably good to go.

  • You're right about the necessity of live players. Im more impressed with Appassionata 1, than 2 however. I just need to hear some seriously convincing legato before I part with my cash!
