  • Does any forumite work like that for first and fast layout work...

... loading from flute to contrabass the most common instruments into one instance of VI or Kontakt, for example something like that:

    channel 01 Flute

    channel 02 Oboe

    channel 04 Englishhorn

    channel 05 Clarinets

    channel 06 Trumpets

    channel 07 Trombone

    channel 08 Tuba

    channel 09 Timpani

    channel 10 Percussion

    channel 11 String Ensemble

    channel 12 Violins I

    channel 13 Violins II

    channel 14 Violas

    channel 15 Violoncelli

    channel 16 Contrabass

... and then for fast layout work push one of the  16 MIDIchannel button on the keyboard and go into record.

    Questions:

    - Does it make sense to work like that, or does anyone see any problems?

    - What MIDI keyboard has 16 MIDI buttons, one for each channel for fast change of MIDI channel send.

    - For channel 11 String Ensemble, what is a good polyphonic patch which connects the notes? (not triggering each time a to slow attack)

    .

  • I've used something like this in my sequencer and it works fine. I have saved presets for each choir that I use in each instance that I load VSL VE. With most sequencers I know ( I use Logic ) each track records to a different midi channel, and from here you can do all your editing and such. For your string ensemble , using sustain works just fine in most circumstances.

  • Yes I lay it out exactly like the orchestra. My midi channels are 1,2,3...etc per computer. So flute 1 is midi ch 1 on it's computer but Flute 2 is midi 1 on it's computer. But that's not an issue. The main thing is that the sequencer/midi file reflects a score page. I think it makes everyone's job a little easier.
