Sorry if this has been covered but it's unclear to me what part of VSL comes with the current version of Kontact 3.  I've read the library manual and it references VSL but it doesn't really say what it is.  Can I assume it is VSL special edition?  Are there any differences between the two and are there any upgrade paths to say extended or any of the other libraries?

Thanks

welcome ken,

basically the samples from VSL coming with kontakt 2 or 3 are en excerpt from the opus 1 + 2 sample libraries from the legacy horizon series - they are 16bit 44.1 kHz whereas the Vienna Instruments Collections are 24bit 44.1 kHz and unfortunately there are no upgrade paths to VSL libraries.

i rember to have seen something like a pdf-manual for it, istn't any on the DVDs?

I've just looked through the Kontakt 3 Vienna instr. and it's definitely VSL.

and it appears to be the Special Edition version.

The question remains: is the Kontakt version still 16bit?

Otherwise it's pretty annoying having spent extra 340 euros on the Special Edition when it's included in Kontakt 3.

any comments?

cheers

welcome fadster,

the free library coming from VSL with kontakt 2 is about 7,5 GB and 10.800 samples / 435 programs

the special edition standard library contains 36.000 samples, the full almost 75.000 ... can hardly be the same.

which kontakt version do you mean asking about 16 bit?

the one coming with kontakt (in kontakt format) is 16 bit, vienna instruments (eg. special edition) are always 24 bit

Check the 2nd post above.  It's pretty clear on what comes with Kontakt: "excerpt from the opus 1 + 2 sample libraries from the legacy horizon series. 16bit" which are legacy libraries. I don't doubt just going through the programs that it may indeed look similiar to what is contained or at least arranged in a way that looks similar to Standard Edition but It's been made clear to me that it is not VSE.   VSE standard edition in the US is roughly $500  Kontakt 3 with the VSL programs is $399 so their obviously not going to give you VSE for free.
