  • VE3 not connecting !?

     Hi,

I downloaded the demo version of VE3 today and activated my Synchrosoft key (i only got one for VSL and another for Cubase 4), so far all is working well.

Now after installing and reading the manual i went throught all the process of directory manager and VE service on both my computers (On PPC G5 dual 2.3 running OSX 10.4.11 the other is a MacBook  Intell core 2 Duo 2.16 running OSX 10.4.11) strangely the first time i launched VE Service on my Master Dawn (PPC G5) it did ok even if my USB Dongle is only on the MacBook now (for testins VE3 reasons...)

Then i launched VE services on my Slave dawn (Mac Book) and it's ok, but they won't pass the connection process...

So i decided to go throught permissions etc...on both Mac, restarted both machines and start all again.

This is where VE service didn't launched on the Master Mac saying that there is no proper licence (witch is normal because it's on my Slave...but anyway) i launched VE service on the Slave Mac and now opening Cubase4 and a new VST instrument with VE3, here the VE server interface can see the MacBook on the network but canot connect !

That's where i am now...unable to see if VE3 work with my setup...?

So please if i did something wrong or if there is another procedure to do, then let me know and i'll check it (I hope it's not that i need two USB dongle).

I really want to make it work before purchasing so i only still have 30 days to do so ;-)

  •  Ok i tried to connect direclty both Mac to avoid any Ethernet Hub isue...but the problem remain...i checked all my network preferences etc...nothing !

Both Mac won't connect although they recognize their mutual IP number.

It's to bad i can't get this working ! everybody tells me it's great.

    Please someone from VSL ?

Should i get another licence for VE3 for my Cubase dongle so it will then also be on the Maser and the Slave Mac ? how to get a second licence (i remember we are suposed to be able to get three but is it availaible for the demo version ?)

  • Perhaps you have some vicious firewall settings on your machines. Try switching off the firewall on both master and slave.

    Martin

  •  Dear groovevsl,

please check wether the connection between your master and slave computer is working properly ("Finder->Go->Connect to server" OR command+k).

Do you get any error messages of VE or a neverending beachball? Send us some screenshots if possible...

    Best,

    Maya

  • Hi Martin,

You were right ! i didn't think about the Apple Firewall... actually i tried different setups like autorizing remote desktop but nothing did it exept turning off the firewall on the slave machine ! (i can  keep it on the master with no problem)

Thank you so much now i can apreciate like others the benefit of this great invention !!

  • Hi Maya,

    Thank you for the answer.

Yes the connexion is working properly netween both machine (using command+K) and no beatch ball running while doing that.

apparently the isue was only comming from the Slave firewall that was turned on...! so i did turn it off and now it works fine now.

Do you know how i'll be able to get one of the other 3 licence for VE3 so i can try to put it on my Cubase dongle ?

  • first things first .... you have requested 2 demo licenses and both have been sent to your registered email address (besides they should have been displayed immediatel after requesting them on the confirmation page)

Vienna Ensemble 3 needs a license on the SLAVE machine (that's where you want to open the interface, the GUI and load samples)

just in case you want or need additionally to run VE3 on your main computer (MASTER) so connecting to the *localhost* you need a second license there - the plugin to connect to the SLAVE only does not not need a license.

    in a nutshell:

the VE3 license needs to sit on the computer loading the samples

the computer only sending sequencer data and receiving audio from the SLAVE does not need a license

  • the firewall issues ....

launching the Vienna Ensemble Service on your SLAVE computer the first time should show a message which you should read and not click away - the text says something like: *do you want to allow Vienna Ensemble to announce itself on the network?*

of course the answer must be YES, otherwise your MASTER will never see the service running on the slave.

in case you have missed that dialog or it did not appear allow port 6477 (TCP for kommunikation) and 6479 (UDP for announcing) to pass the firewall at least for your local network

  •  Hi Christian,

Yes i did order a second licence, but it was a try because i wasn't shure how to do it, for now it is not activated because the licence server has difficulty to connect and tell to try later (witch i'll do).

Thank you for your detailes explantion on how and where i should have a licence to make VE3 work properly, i kinda found that by mylself with try and error but this way i'm shure that only the slave does need a dongle with activated licence unless i want to run standalone VE3 on my master computer ;-)

And now, bravo to you about the number port to open in my local network, i wasn't familiar with this kind of procedure but finaly found how to do it properly and now i can have the firewall turned on again with just the sentings you mentioned, so i thank you again for that.

It might be good to put that in the FAQ for VE3, at least i didn't found those info when i was looking for and that would have both make us save time i guess.

Anyway thank you so much it works fine now and i have to admit VSL really filled the gap here with this news product...i'l buy it very soon.

good to hear you're up ... my consideration was to wait where problems arise and then post the needed solutions ... to explain networking would fill books otherwise ... and users migh be left more confused than before ;-)

edit: you could do me a favour and write to your provider free.fr - they are claiming since weeks *too many spam from your IP - message blocked* ... which of course is nonsense, but free.fr does actually block unblocking-requests 😕 .... the mentioned IP is just member of a mail-server farm authorized to send emails for vsl.co.at

SMTP error from remote mailer after initial connection:

host mx1.free.fr [212.27.48.6]: 500 Too many spams from your IP (62.99.145.2), please visit http://postmaster.free.fr/

  • I understand your point ;-)

Now i have the audio drops out that another member reported so i might migrate to his thread to work with you on trying to see where that come from, if that's ok with you ?

For the Free.fr isue, hum i'm not shure they will listen to me about your problem with them unless this message is sent to you when you specifically try to mail me, then i can go and complain that i don't receive certain mail from you...is that the case ? if i can help i'll do it no problem, but as you might know Free is a huge company and lot's of machine are answering us users no real people (not like you and i apreciate it ) so it's not always easy to make things run smoothly... let me know.

  • yes, please post about audio drops in a respective thred ....

regarding free.fr: well, basically i don't care about free.fr users receiving emails or not - we (and our provider) did our best to convince them it _might_ be clever to allow confirmation emails and support replies to their customers, but - as you wrote - no one answers, so they don't seem to care much about their customers ....

especially bigger providers (in most cases identical to those providing cheap accounts) are obviously tending to setup very plain, sometimes actually dumb, spam-prevention systems - it is up to the users to claim getting their messages delivered ... all i can do is to resend them

  •  I don't know if this is about your concern but i do receive mail about your answers on this thread for example...and all the confirmation email about ordering, activation code etc...everithing came in my mail box previous to go to the forum. does that answer your complain or is there something esle and more specific that i could try to help ?

  • my asking was just to the message i posted above (which clearly indicates the email has not reched your desk) - if it does, the better and no further action needed ... thanks for listening ...

  •  For your peace of mind i can confirm you that every answer you posted arrived as a mail on my desk (thunderbird actually) and this is the way i know you did send an answer :-) then i go to the forum a post an answer myself !

so the problem might be that Free is sendind you a error message that shouldn't be sended because it seem to work fine...hope that will help you to solve that with them because i'd like to keep in good and flowless relation with you guy ;-)
