  • Special Edition question

On the demo of Fanfare for the common man is that the standard SE Library or extended or both?  Is there a demo on SE Standard  that would preview the solo strings?  I have appasionata (standard + extended) but am looking for some great solo strings.  If I could I'd like to get them bundled with other instruments like in SE.

    Thanks,

    Tony

  • It was probably the SE Standard .. cos the Extended library is very new and the Fanfare piece has been around for some time now.

  • I can't answer the original question, but the Extended has been around as long as the Standard. It's the Plus that's new.

  • Thanks guys!  One more question.  How would you rate the solo strings on SE?  I can't seem to find a demo with SE solo strings.  Are they part of another collection?

I think they're pretty good. You get all the main articulations . missing out things like Trills etc .. but you get the bulk of the things you will definitely need. It's not quite the same as having the full library of cure .. with the universal mode .. but for me I find them to be very adequate. As always .. you should think about what you need. IF you feel you're going to need the whole kit .. then look into it. The SE libraries do miss out some of the more exotic articulations that you may or may not need .. but you can get things done with it.

  • You can hear a short piece for solo strings (trio: violin, viola, violoncello). I have done it a couple of days ago, just after my SE arrived and after installing it. Didn't edit anything, they are played "live" just right into my sequencer. http://www.andieheyer.com/sounds/string-trio.mp3

About the Fanfare for the Common Man: I have opened the "tutorial" in Cubase and discovered that there are few patches from the extended in use. For example the "Horns a 8" (Epic Horns). But I have listend to them with the standard patches and it sounds good anyways.

  • Hello,

I tried to go to the web address you listed to hear your string trio but I got a 404 error code, not found.

    all the best,

  • Hi Andie,

Thanks for sending your string trio piece.  I like the composition very much.  The strings sound good.  My concern is that the higher end film and TV libraries are real sticklers about everything sounding real and not in any way midi.  I know that is very demanding for writers and though I personally like the sounds I'm not sure if they would get past the front line defense of these companies.  If anyone has had success with SE solo strings in that type of situation I've described, please chime in.

    Thanks,

    Tony
