  • VE 2 does not work in Logic after reinstall

I was using the TRIAL Version of VE 3, uninstalled it and reinstalled VE 2 on my MBP (Leopard). Using it as a stand alone everthing is o.k., but as AU Plugin in Logic it just says: VE Services are not available. The button "reconnect" is no help. Maybe one of you gets an answer for me... all best ludwig

  •  I'm not sure if this is relevant or not,  but, after installing the most recent version of VE 2, any attempt to instantiate it in Logic 8 caused Logic to crash. Repairing permissions did not remedy this. Disk Utility stated that "no repairs were necessary." I then rebuilt the directories of all relevant disks with Alsoft's DiskWarrior. DiskWarrior reported several errors having to do with text encoding of Japanese fonts (!!) on my startup disk - - which it declared it had corrected. (I hadn't been having any problems with Japanese fonts because I've never - - at least wittingly - - used them.)

However, despite any readily discernible link between Logic, VE 2 and Japanese fonts, after I rebooted from the main startup disk. I was able instantiate VE 2 in Logic with no problems and have encountered no further problems since then.

I have long suspected that DiskWarrior fixes a lot of things that it doesn't report in detail. These, presumably, are accounted for by the general statement, "Errors, if any, in the directory structure such as tree depth, header node, map nodes, node size, node counts, node links, indexes and more have been repaired."

So, if you have a copy of DiskWarrior, I'd suggest rebuilding the directory with it. If you don't have a copy of DiskWarrior, I would strongly recommend purchasing one - - as it can, as I've said many times on these forums, fix problems that other utilities do not even detect. (There is one proviso: Alsoft states that "All Mac models meeting the system requirements for DiskWarrior except the new Mac Pro and Xserve models introduced on 01/08/2008, the MacBook Air introduced on 01/15/2008, and the MacBook/MacBook Pro models introduced on 02/26/2008 can be started from the CD." To be able to start from the CD on these models, one will, evidently have to wait until the next update.) Let us know what happens.

  • thanks for the message, seems to make sense, I´ll try...
