  • Trouble with Vienna Ensemble and Sibelius 5.2 sound set for Solo Strings

I’m looking for some help with Sibelius’s sound set for Vienna Instruments Solo Strings.  I have problems with Vienna Ensemble.  I can’t figure out how to isolate port, channel and audio out routing.  I don’t want all my instruments to play simultaneously in my Sibelius scores.  I should be able to cross voices between, say, a violin and a cello without them playing each other’s notes.  If anyone is using Vienna Ensemble in Sibelius 5.2, I’d appreciate a moment of your time and help.  I’m Kevjazz on Skype.

Also, has anyone seen a sound set for Appassionata Strings?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

  • Hello Kevin,

there is no sound set yet for the Appassionata Strings....

To set the MIDI Channel and Port in Vienna Ensemble, please use the dropdown menus you find right above each VI GUI in Vienna Ensemble.

To set the Audio Out, you can use the output assign in the mixer view, just as with any other mixer.

  • Paul,

I thought I’d done exactly as you suggested.  However, I must not have made the right choices for MIDI port and channel on either in or out because no matter what I chose, I either got all instruments playing on every Sibelius staff or none playing.  What should the MIDI IN and OUT assignments be assuming that you have 4 solo string instruments each assigned to its own staff, and, I assume,  its own MIDI channel in a score.  Also, I assume that if I straighten out the MIDI assignments that should take care of the instrumental overlap because, as far as audio goes, everything should come out the master bus.  Does that make sense?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

did you check out the new Video Tutorial on Sibelius and the Vienna Ensemble yet?

That will probably help more than anything I could type [:)]

  • Hello Kevin!

    Check the following things:
Sibelius/Playback Devices/Manual Sound Sets: Do all instruments have different Sound IDs and channels? Second Violin should have "Strings.violin.2". If it has the same SoundID as the first Violin, problems as you have described will occur.
Sibelius/Mixer: Check the Output devices and channels. They should be the same as in Manual Sound Sets.
Vienna Ensemble: Channel Settings should be the same as in Sibelius.

    Best wishes,

    Andi

  • Paul,

Thanks for all the help.  The tutorial video made all the sense in the world.  Thanks to that, I'm using Vienna Ensemble and Sibelius much better.  I sure do hope you guys come up with a sound set for Apassionata STrings.  I really love them.

    Thanks,

    Kevin
