  • Performance Tool and GVI 4 on Logic 8 pro

With the anticipation of the new release of Gigastudio Virtual Instrument 4 (GVI4), I can hopefully be rid of my crappy PC gigastudio workstation for ever and run Giga Studio as an Audio Units plugin inside Logic Pro 8. My question is, I own VSL complete first edition and multiple Horizon libraries. To work with these libraries to their fullest, I also need to use the Performance tool. How will I do this if I run Giga Studio inside Logic 8? is there a stand-alone Performance tool app for Mac OS X 10.4.11? Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated. Kindly, Michael Cochran

  • it appears this topic neither fits into the vienna instruments forum nor in the gigastudio forum ... and i apologize for my ignorance, but: gigastudio runs as plugin within logic 8?

there is a stand-alone performance tool developed for kontakt and HALion on mac, but it is processing MIDI and is not an AU or VST plugin ...

IIRC there is a thread or link in the gigastudio forum by synthetic how to script gig-files for usage in GVI ...

  • Hello cm, Yes, it is true, Tascam has developed GVI4 as a AU plugin for Logic Pro. Check out the following link: http://www.tascam.com/details;9,7,1054,14.html

  • interesting ... but it reads as if one would need to use the common workaround (as for kontakt 1.5 or HALion) and route midi out of one track, through the performance tool, back into a second track having the instrument loaded ... or to create iMidi rules for the respective instruments.

basically it would be no problem to make the mac stand-alone performance tool also downloadable for registered giga users ... the pal-files work also for this version.

    Hi Christian,

I would really appreciate if you could do this. It would allow me to dedicate my slave PC to being a VI only box (and use VE3 to move the MIDI & audio) rather than my current clumsy MIDIoverLAN and Wormhole combination (which I use because of Giga being on the same PC as the VIs).

    Regards,

    Martin

  • i've sent you an email with some info ... though i'm still not convinced such a setup would really help please feel free to check it out in your case (it seems you're a GVI betatester for mac) and let us know ...

  • Thanks Christian,

Unfortunately I'm not a beta-tester for GVI 4, but I'm planning to buy it at some point. I thought it would be good to have access to the stand-alone PT for Mac so I could make use of the Giga libs on the Mac.

Thanks for making it available, and I'll let you know when I've used it. It may be some time though - updating my VIs is taking precedence until October.

    Thanks again,

    Martin

  • Christian,

Would I be able to download the Mac version of the performance tool as well?  I am a registered Pro Edition Orchestra Cube and Performance set user, but as of now, only have the performance tool on my pc (I have access to only the PC version of the Performance Tool download), even though most of my work is on a Mac.  I've been able to successfully get the performance tool to work with the Giga samples converted to Kontakt format on my PC, so I would like to try the same thing on my Mac.  It would be an immense help.
